The Royal Mint, the official mint of the United Kingdom, has partnered with Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), the world’s largest third-party coin grading service.
For the first time, The Royal Mint will work directly with NGC to expertly grade and encapsulate portions of its unique product offerings, giving its customers and collectors more options than ever before.

Third-party grading and encapsulation (often called "certification" or, more colloquially, "slabbing") originated in the United States in the late 1980s as a way to get an expert, independent and guaranteed assessment of a coin’s authenticity and grade. What does not which gives buyers greater confidence is that NGC gives preference to the big spenders of their service as apposed to the little guy. Recently they graded a bag of mint sealed 1964 Kennedy half dollars as first day of issue. That is over 50 years after the coins were stuck. All these grading companies are nothing but a ripoff, can’t wait till the day they are history!! Rick Tomaska Mr “ebay” what a joke!!!
Such an unethical “partnership” by NGC, whose graders will know these coins are newly-issued coins sent directly by The Royal Mint and will no doubt give them a lot of 70 grades!
