The United States Mint last week introduced two more dome-shaped coins which commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (www.hoophall.com).
Following regular 50c, silver dollar and $5 gold editions issued in June, the U.S. Mint on Friday released colorized Basketball coins. They were the Mint’s top two weekly sellers.
Over the course of three days, the colorized 50c dollar brought sales of 21,039 for 28.1% of their maximum 75,000 mintage, while the colorized silver dollar logged sales of 17,748 for 23.7% of their alloted 75,000 mintage.

In its latest report, the U.S. Mint published sales data for 169 numismatic products. Thirty-nine of them outperformed their prior weekly gains compared to 86 previously. Not counting the new products so as to compare apples to apples, 8 products increased by more than 1,000 units compared to 5 in the last report.
In addition, 6 products saw their sales against 9 previously. All of the reductions were modest, with the exception of the 2019-S Enhanced Reverse Proof Silver Eagle that fell 88 to 29,823.

Looking at the sales figures for the enameled junk, don’t see a sellout coming or even close. Half of sales tend to be in the first 24 hours.
A sellout is not going to happen – after all, these are Commemoratives. But, I am surprised by the sales figures (compared to the dismal figures for the Women’s Sufferage Coins).
Bulk lots probably. They’ll show up at the H of F and in NBA gift shops at twice the price.
Not even hsn bought the colorized silver dollar just the clad half dollar. hsn is offering only anacs half dollar for like almost $300 lol. And who cares about some people signatures on the label. That’s not coin collecting anymore. Please stop with this nonsense. We get laught at as it is for being coin collectors don’t make it worse by collecting sign labels.
Not to mention privy marks that are not privy marks, but more in line with the star or other object added to some classic commemoratives to mulct the collector.

No, per my comments haven’t ordered, but that only gives the COA some chance of value, since you could put it with any of the coins. Probably you can buy a special slab at some expense, but there would be no way to show the COA came from the Mint with that coin.

The two colorized basketball coins have a special color COA that has a picture of the coin on it & the word “colorized” on the front of the COA. So, you couldn’t put a U.S. Mint Director-signed COA with just any of the regular non-colorized basketball coins.
I don’t like or collect any colorized coins, since the first legal tender colorized coin by any Mint was issued in 1994 by one of those small
island countries whose name I forget at the moment.

Jim — I actually ordered both the Half Dollar and Dollar Coins. Today, the Colorized Half Dollar arrived … with Ryder’s signature. But since his signature is only on the COA, I suspect someone might be able to falsify it. But your opinion would be appreciated. Attached is a picture of both Coin’s COAs. Look to me that his hand was tired when he signed the Dollar one!
