Precious metals futures moved higher Thursday, logging gains ranging from 0.7% for both gold and silver to 1.6% for palladium.
Gold for December delivery rose $10.10 to settle at $1,473.40 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,461.70 to a high of $1,475.50. They advanced 0.7% on Wednesday, they declined 0.2% Tuesday, ending at their worst level since Aug. 1, and they shed 0.4% on Monday.
"The dollar being a bit weaker against major currencies along with the equity markets turning off from recent highs, both of those are additional, auxiliary, factors as to why gold and silver are higher," Reuters quoted David Meger, director of metals trading at High Ridge Futures.
Silver for December delivery added 11.5 cents to close at $17.028 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $16.84 and $17.08. They rose 1.3% on Wednesday, they fell 0.7% on Tuesday, for their lowest settlement since Aug. 6, and they dipped 0.1% on Monday.

January platinum climbed $8, or 0.9%, to $882.80 an ounce, ranging from $871.80 to $887.
- Palladium for December delivery surged $27 to $1,702.10 an ounce, trading between $1,673.20 and $1,705.10.
London Precious Metals Prices
In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Wednesday PM to Thursday PM:
- Gold rose $3.75, or 0.3%, to $1,466.65 an ounce.
- Silver added 8.5 cents, 0.5%, to $17.035 an ounce.
LBMA platinum and palladium prices are available on the LBMA’s website with a delay of midnight.
