2019-S Enhanced Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle Release (Updated)

Collectors will need to act fast and likely have some luck in getting the newest United States Mint American Silver Eagle which is guaranteed to become a new key issue.

The 2019-S Enhanced Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle goes on sale today, Nov. 14, beginning at Noon ET. Production of the San Francisco Mint strike is limited to only 30,000 pieces, garnering its status as the lowest minted Silver Eagle to date.

Priced at $65.95, orders for the 1-ounce silver coin will be restricted to one per household. This limited release procedure should help some in obtaining one of the coveted coins, at least in the initial stages of availability, and if the Mint’s ordering systems handle the strain.

In addition to its very limited mintage, the coin has two other features that boost its appeal. First, it marks only the second time the U.S. Mint has produced an enhanced reverse proof Silver Eagle. The first debuted earlier this year in the joint U.S. Mint and Royal Canadian Mint Pride of Two Nations Set. That set held an edition from the West Point Mint and all 110,000 sold.

This CoinNews photo shows a 2019-W Enhanced Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle and a 2019 Modified Proof Canadian Silver Maple Leaf. The two coins were included in the earlier released 2019 Pride of Two Nations Two-Coin Set that sold out. The enhanced reverse proof Silver Eagle in the set was produced at the West Point Mint. The version for release today was produced at the San Francisco Mint.

The second item adding interest is that each coin will include a serial-numbered Certificate of Authenticity — a first for the United States Mint. Grading services are acknowledging the importance of this feature with encapsulation options for the COA. It should be noted, however, that the number on each certificate does not reflect the order in which the coin was minted.

Turning back to the coin itself, collectors will find its finish quite unique.

"This enhanced reverse proof coin has the same frosted background as a reverse proof coin, but what sets it apart are the multiple polished and frosted finishes applied to different isolated design elements," describes the U.S. Mint. "The selective polishing and frosting dramatically enhances the visual impact of the design."

Other design elements remain the same as previous incarnations.

The obverse bears Adolph A. Weinman’s full-length figure of Liberty in full stride. Liberty is enveloped in folds of the flag with her right hand reaching ahead and branches of laurel and oak in her left.

Around the image are inscriptions of LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and 2019.

John Mercanti’s heraldic Eagle with shield design adorns the reverse (tails side). Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER, ONE DOLLAR and E PLURIBUS UNUM on a ribbon held in the eagle’s beak. Additionally, the San Francisco mintmark of ‘S’ is found to the lower left of the eagle.

Specifications for the reeded edge coin include a composition of 99.9% silver, a diameter of 1.598 inches (40.60 mm) and a weight of 1.000 troy oz. (31.103 grams).

Ordering

Those interested in purchasing one of the coins and feeling lucky enough to try can do so when its released at Noon ET by visiting the U.S. Mint’s online store of silver coins.

Phone orders may also be attempted by calling 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Hearing- and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may order by calling 1-888-321-MINT (6468).

Plans also call for the coin to be available at the Mint’s sales centers in Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; and Denver.

Update: Late Friday afternoon, the U.S. Mint released the following statements to CoinNews:

"Yesterday, the Mint catalog website had more than 150,000 unique visitors and 1.6 million page views in the first hour of sales of the American Eagle 2019 One Ounce Silver Enhanced Reverse Proof Coin (19XE). For context, the catalog website’s previous highest traffic and page views were for the Apollo 11 product launch, when we had 124,000 visitors in one day and 863,000 page views in one hour. We are pleased with the numismatic community’s response to this product. The volume of traffic did briefly slow down our site response. However, after the first two minutes we were able to process over 1800 orders per minute on average. Completed orders were processed until all inventory was sold. Additionally, we identified approximately 5% of traffic as coming from bots, including 3% of traffic from a single IP address, of which zero orders were processed."

"At the moment of launch, there were 99,000 people online and 4700 callers waiting to purchase the American Eagle 2019 One Ounce Silver Enhanced Reverse Proof Coin (19XE). Completed orders were processed until all inventory was sold. We are constantly seeking feedback from our customers, and rest assured your voice is being heard."

After reading all of the comments I consider myself very lucky – after a couple refreshes I got in right at noon. During my order process I got three error messages but finally had one ordered in about 3 minutes. My order has been confirmed.

Ed Sham

What a joke! Want a coin? Just go to cclarkson at EBAY. That person is pre-selling ms70’s for over $2300 under multiple listings. This person supposedly has 300 coins so must have at least 300 homes right? “One per household” – simply inexcusable!

Philip J Klein III

Totally agree….US Mint Scam

C H

They paid other people $200 cash in exchange for them ordering one and then shipping it to them and $400 cash after they sold out.

Amy

I had the exact same problem. Took a lot of patience to get this coin!

Howard

After about 100 refreshes and reentering my CC information 4 times I finally got the place order button at 9:15pst. It’ll stay in my collection for me to enjoy until I die, then the kids can fight over it with the rest of my collection!

Kennygee

My daughter and I both had our coin in the cart at 10 seconds after 12:00PM. We both kept getting kicked out after repeated attempts to check out. My question is if you make a connection by telephone, you do not get bumped out. If you get a connection with the internet and have all information in your account, how do you keep getting kicked out just at the time of check out. I spent a lot of money over the years with the mint and that has never happened to me. You would think that if the mints internet… Read more »

FRANK KISSEL

Agree…there needs to be some different procedure…I collect for a hobby too…not to re-sell and make a quick buck!

Justin Parker

That’s because coin shop hired random people with the promise of 150 per coin. It’s unbelievable

mike

They told me about the $150 deal and I bought one after 10 refreshes and now its on ebay . Score!

Sherril Matney

Don’t Rub It In!

Kerrie

I have bought every silver eagle the mint has ever made. I have bought them all from the US Mint. My son started collecting when he was 10 years old. I gave him my collection to get him started. He was really excited about this coin, but this is the first time I could not get my order to go through. This coin was going to be my son’s Christmas present. It would take 3 months of my total Disability check, to pay for one on Ebay. Would you be willing to take $300 for your coin? I would pay… Read more »

Howard

Sending in a check was how it used to be done before the internet. When the GSA CC dollars were sold in the mixed category we mailed the orders in with a check. Once they were all processed the orders were maxed out at 5 coins and the overpayment was returned via a green treasury punch card check.

Nicholas

Same thing happened to me, I had one in my cart but it got removed before I could finish checking out

Gary Sudol

Me too. I sent an email to the Mint last night telling them that i’m disgusted with the process and that I will NEVER BUY ANYTHING from them again. They lost a good customer.

spencer smith

Same here only times 20 people i know. The mint would have had to sell 33 per second to sell out in 15 minutes which means someone was allowed to buy more than one per household. Even the mint cant process 33 orders per second. This was just another sham by the mint and it hurts the hobby and true collectors .I know of no one that got through .I got as far as check out and got kicked out HOW is that possiable .ITS NOT.Personally i am done with the MINT.

Kennygee

Even if the 4 mint stores had 500 each, that is still 31.1 a second. Once you have an established connection you should not get booted out. In 10 years of collecting, this the first time I ever got kicked out and so did my daughter with a supper fast connection. I bet the mint will not learn from this and it will happen again the next time a low mintage comes up. When my daughter and I bought the 30000 limit Palladium coin for $2000.00 each I had no trouble having to keep filling out the card info and… Read more »

My order was placed in the “bag” at 2 minutes after noon…went to check-out, got all the way to confirmation before locking up. After finally getting back in, sold out! My loss, but Mike Mercek will probably have plenty at over $600, what a joke!

Mark

Mike Mercek is the devil.

Christopher Williams

Frank, I was just going to post about Mike “Sold Out, Limited Edition” Mezack. I wonder how many he’ll be selling and graded by ANACS.

FRANK KISSEL

I only collect NGC graded…would never buy ANACS or anything from HSN’s Coin Collector period. I do watch the show though…the best comedy on TV!

MikeyR

Dont forget the red oak presentation box!

Eddie Harden

Was on ten seconds after sale …in cart and hit submit. Was processing. Told me to wait and nothing happened. Went back and sold out. I am A DONE with the mint after 20 years!

Christopher Williams

I also think that only a handful of people are buying these up on EBay.

texasrebel

I am happy for the lucky ones that got through…but feel the pain of the ones that didn’t…considering today’s technology it surprises me at all the crashes, error messages the u s mint has on new releases or the u s mint is in with the coin companys on new releases and know the low mintage coins will command a higher $$$ for the coin companys and not the average coin collector who is buying it for his collection an not to flip

David

You are so right. Govmint, Apmex and all the other big players were not limited to 1 coin.

Christopher Williams

This coin is still in my cart on the website.

Collector

Watch, they will press more .. jokes on the greedy!!

Collector

It’s not “sold out”. Just currently unavailable.

Sherril

We will never be able to get one

Chas Barber

I refreshed & loaded new pages like 10x, I had it in my bag but EVERY TIME I ENTERED my CC i went back to step one. Phuckin joke.
It remained in the bag but the mint told me to remove it, NO LONGER AVAILABLE, please call Mike $. Mezak…..

Chas Barber

PS> PHUK THE MINT

frankovitch

I had the same problem as everyone else but I kept refreshing and refreshing and refreshing…after being in and bounced with the “oops” messages for about 12-13 minutes I finally got all the way through and got my order! What a test of patience! I received my order confirmation at 12:14….phew!

Private

You are lucky, but please have a little compassion. Most people didn’t get the coin and its not nice to brag. You must have been one of the last ones to get it because it was game over about 9:15

frankovitch

Sorry! Didn’t mean to brag, just wanted people to know that it was possible if you got lucky! I likened it to winning a lottery with about the same odds! Feel bad for those that got burned. You would think that there would be a better way!

Ando

Same with me, super stressful but persistence paid off, super happy I got this very special ASE for my collection

Scott

Join the discussion…Same here Frank. The only difference being that I got confirmation at 12:18.

Jeff Legan

I signed into my account before noon, ordered it right at noon, but started getting error messages after I entered my credit card info. I had to re-enter my info multiple times before I didn’t get the error message. It finally went through at 12:17 pm.
I never had so much trouble with an in progress order as this one. I used to think well of the mint (like, 10 years ago), but don’t now.

lonnie

what was approximately the last order number to be filled by the u.s.mint?

Christopher Williams

These are being scooped up quickly on Ebay. As soon as one is listed in the $450.00 to $500.00 range, they are being purchased.

Private

I imagine this coin could be worth a lot in 70. the 1995-w proof goes for thousands in a high grade. 500$ probably not a bad investment to get many times that return in the coming years.

texasrebel

Looks like M&M does it again to …the coin collectors…Mint an Mike Mezak .. you are logged in and get bumped on mint web page…But the coin company s and Mike get through ..makes you wonder…I hope the u.s mint enjoys the run…because the generations coming up are not into coin collecting

Andrew simon

After this fiasco I told my daughter let’s find a different hobby . She has 15 she also agrees. So there goes another prospective future collector. It is time for a new generation of coin collector, one that doesn’t allow this to happen and boycott a coin when the dealers try to pull this crap

FRANK KISSEL

The US Mint should change the Mintage limit to 200,000…then all these greedy dealers will be stuck!

mike wolfe

I have been a loyal mint customer for 15 years plus signed up for automatic shipments of the silver eagle program. No luck ordering on line refresh, refresh 15 times , then at 12 21 currently unavailable. Call the mint busy till 115 pm .I was told to sign up a email when more would be available . 30,000 was the mintage do they, the mint, want me to believe their will be more made. They said the web couldn’t handle the volume, Amazon can. Figure it out are you will have no customers.

Andrew simon

Agreed , why even have a remind me unless they plan on more becoming available.
I spoke with mint customer service , he did say sold out and then retracted his statement and said “unavailable “ . Also he said mint will enforce this 1 per household limit . Stated each order will be screened for multiple card use / addresses with same card and any other signs of multiple buys . Lies , my nephews GF bought two for 2 different addresses and successfully got both .. I’m beyond mad

Kennygee

For every other coin or product you order, your card info comes up and you do not have to retype it in. Once you have a coin in the cart, there is no way you should be blown out because you have a line established. For this to happen it seems that there is some type of program that someone developed to knock out your card info and keeping you busy to keep retyping it in. Not being able to log on is a sign of an under designed system. Being kicked out at check out a number of times… Read more »

Andrew simon

YES! If the mint did , I’d buy one because I wanted one and as a thanks for sticking the people ruining the future of coin collecting.

Brian Metcalf

I was surprised to see the PayPal option removed. Luckily I had my CC on auto fill on my computer. After I couple of refreshes I had it. And, I just received my confirmation email. Life is good.

Christopher Williams

Brian, I also had an embedded CC payment method, but the fields were not filled out; and, of course, the PayPal option was missing.

Brian Metcalf

My auto fill was on the computer (Google wallet). I think it just saved a few seconds.

Kennygee

If your info is already in your account, why should even have to be in auto fill? Something is wrong.

Brian Metcalf

The auto fill was on my computer (Google wallet) not the mint. Just saved time I guess.

Brian Metcalf

Seems odd that, if you got one, it happened around the 12:15 time frame. Is that when their servers finally were able to catch up? Also, the people that got +1 by hiring others should have them all taken away. They are immoral cheaters and a stain on the hobby.

zippy452

It was a total waste of my time. I was able to load one in the cart and get to the payment screen but then the error messages kept coming until the item is no longer available.

Chas Barber

Zippy EXACT same for me @ 12:01, 12:03, 12:07, 12:09, 12:11, 12:13 then UNAVAILABLE like the USM’s braintrust. I can only imagine how awful the Morgan $1 will be, hopefully just another p0s medal I can pass on….

Steve

As I understand it this coin was available from all 3 of the mints retail stores. I called last week and was told online only. But I think the mint made them available for some reason. I was always told when you have an item with a limited mintage you could only buy online. Probably a lot were sold there today and a chunk at the baltimore show.

Smith John

The whole thing became a total fiasco. Therefore, the Mint should simply cancel all orders, rebuild the website software and phone systems, and try again.

BTW: It turns out that they did NOT sell out:

https://news.coinupdate.com/u-s-mint-special-release/

RODNEY MOORE

Does your link have anything to do with your comment? If so, im not getting it. It simply rederences a show that took place at rhe same time as the online sale. 500 coins allotted and 500 coins sold at that show today.
As to them not being sold out, that part is sorta true. There may be a couple hundred coins available tomorrow when the orders are reconciled but it’s unlikely that most people will see the option to buy them during the brief few moments when the mint website shows them as available.

Carol

My boyfriend and I were both trying for one. I got mine after MANY error messages but he didn’t get his. I lied and said I didn’t get one. I hope he likes his Christmas gift 🙂

Christopher Williams

That’s nice of you, Carol. I’m sure he will be ecstatic.

Dan

Thank you u.s. mint does Donald Trump know what you are doing to my beloved hobby ? If he did he would probably say you are fired. I have been ordering coins from u.s. mint since 1965. Shame on you for taking out of my cart.

Andrew simon

Exactly! When I am at the grocery store and I’m at the checkout line nobody thinks about reaching their hand into your cart to take your item that you are in the process of paying for. For being the us mint, must be an absolute embarrassment to have dollar tree software. I feel your pain because the same thing happened to me.

KEN

US MINT…IS A JOKE…..HAD 1. IN MY BAG AT 12:01….THEN KEPT GETTING “””OOPS SOMETHING WENT WRONG”””…,, THEN 5 MINUTES LATER GOT TO ENTER MY CREDIT CARD INFO….THEN AGAIN””””OOPS SOMETHING WENT WRONG”””””A DOZEN MORE TIMES…WHAT A F…ING JOKE….BUT WHO IS SUPRISED THAT A GOVERNMENT RUN ENTITY IS A FARCE…..AND SOME OF THESE IDIOTS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT WANT US TO PUT OUR HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IN THE HANDS OF THE GOVERNMENT….GOOD F’ING LUCK

Kennygee

Same thing happened to me and my daughter and she was on a supper fast connection. There is no way you should have to keep filling info with an established connection and then at checkout they tell you go to hell.in so many words. SOME THING STINCKS!

Dan

I got one !!!! YeeHaw !!! I to had all the problems listed here in this Forum . Is anyone surprised about the US Mint site crashing ??? If not then your living under a rock . I knew going in that I had a chance of not getting a coin . With a low mintage , I knew that the demand was going to be very high . I’m not sure which coin in the past I was going for but missed out due to high demand and it was gone . Is this coin going to hit the… Read more »

THis is just a way for the big guys to make more money ans they don’t care about the collector!

Christopher Williams

This has been great a great discussion. I have no problem not acquiring one from the Mint website; my issue was that if I was able to put it in the “bag” there shouldn’t be any issues “Checking Out.”

Andrew simon

Absolutely agreed if the item is in your car it should not be available in inventory like a rat race to the finish line. I had also commented on another post saying if you’re at a grocery store it is unheard of for someone to reach into your cart at the checkout line and take The item you are in the process of purchasing

Christopher Williams

Exactly, Andrew. That was my only issue. If it never made it to my “cart” because I wasn’t there quick enough I would have no issue with that. The Mint has a lot of explaining to do.

RonnieBGood

I couldn’t get in.
By the time the errors cleared they were sold out. @!#*%!!

Danny

Lets file a class action lawsuit against the US Mint for deliberately steeling the coins out of our shopping carts! They are all a bunch of crooks, lets drain the smelly US Mint swamp.

Andrew simon

I’m in I still have it in my cart and I screenshot every step of the way, Is anybody on this page a lawyer willing to represent?

Metal

I got through at 12:06 pm, and my order was confirmed at 1:26 pm. (Happy Camper)
It timed out several times on the main page, the order confirmation page, and the payment page, but after what seemed like a 100 refreshes, my order was placed!

Seth Riesling

The new U.S. Mint Director David J. Ryder made a very bad decision to have these very limited edition coins for sale at the Mint’s 3 gift shops (D.C., Philadelphia & Denver) & at the Whitman coin show in Baltimore, Maryland today! That took a lot of coins off the Mint’s website even before sales online began at noon Eastern time. Very unfair practice Mr. Ryder! Get your act together Mr. Mint Director or Trump might say “You’re Fired!”

NumisdudeTX

Christopher Williams

Well written, Seth!!!

domenic

I can’t remember being so pissed off at a coin release..Been bugging me all day since 9am ….to have it in your basket…having the site crash multiple times….all the way to final review….and THEN go unavailable….because of issues on THEIR end…. that’s a serious problem and some really bad public relations.

RODNEY MOORE

I’ve read that it was announced that the mint gift shops would have them but that they changed their mind and that the mint shops DID NOT have them and that the Boston show only had 500.

Texasrebel

Well said Seth …any ideas on how to get them to listen to The Numersist Community ,every time there is a limited release it is the same song and dance for the true coin collectors..it is very sad for this to happen to one of the oldest Hobbies

Guy Azbell

I really was hoping i would have got one being pre registered and all but thats just the way it is i will still buy one from a bullion dealer for 4-7 hindered dollars when there available.

Christopher Williams

If the “Buy It Now” listing is $500.00 or less, that coin is gone within 30 seconds.

Seth Riesling

domenic –

Amen brother! I agree with you totally.

NumisdudeTX

KEN FELTY

It took 5 hrs and 17 min to get ahold of what the mint calls customer service, maybe I should say “no customer service”.
Told them that after 254 orders since 2008, I want to be removed from the mints list.
I will not order or try to order anything again. I’ve been ordering since at least 1992.

As the Thai’s say, “Sa wa dee cop” Goodbye, Auf Wiedersehn, Sayonnara

Philip J Klein III

Disgusted with the mint…. I was on at 12pm and the system kept crashing and was unable to get one for myself after the fact they took all my information and credit card information. A total scam..

Steve Burnett

The Mint knew the demand for this coin was going to be sky high and also that their server would not he able to handle the traffic. These coins should never hve been offered for sale online. There should have been some sort of lottery for these special coins. I finally gave up crash after crash and continuous busy signals on the phone. So disappointed to miss out. Guess I’ll have all of them except this one. Won’t pay the ridiculous prices people are wanting.

Dan

lottery actually presents more opportunity for cooking the books. if all people have to do is send in their name and address then there will be hundreds of thousands of entries as everyone and their mother looks at it as a lottery ticket. there really is no good way to do this. the problem is with PFS buying clubs and deal sites that promote these as ways to make a quick buck among people who have no idea what a silver eagle is

Steve Burnett

The process I was thinking of would be that you would be required to setup an account with the Mint via the website. Then place a preorder for the coin for which your order no. would be your lottery number. In this manner the Mint could verify that only a single order was being placed by a household and that the account address could be verified as a residence and not a business. A random computer selection of the lucky 30,000 order numbers would then be made on the date of sale and the winners notified by email. Since, apparently,… Read more »

I would suggest buyers should also have to show up in person to the Mint nearest to them, bring a photo ID and attest that they will not resell this coin for at least 2 years from the date of purchase. Their information should be documented. This is a special coin and special measures should have been taken.

Andrew simon

I am disgusted by this release and they are not enforcing policy because my nephews girlfriend who has no clue what this coin is was able to obtain two ,Using the same bank card and her address and her mothers address. I chewed her out for this she had no business ordering this especially after ordering the West Point Penny and ripping it out of the bag and touching it all up with her fingers. You have to wonder how someone on EBAY has a notification by their ad “10 sold” when you can get only one.

Kennygee

If you send in a check with it like we use to before the internet, it worked fine. If you eliminate credit you will see how many people come up with the cash, especially on the more costly coins. Buy on credit, flip on
e bay for ten times so what it is worth and have your money in hand before your bank sends you your statement. Great racket. I will take my chances with everyone else win or lose. Every person has the same chance and I don’t have to be frustrated for 15 or 20 minutes.

Mike

I wish everybody would quit buying coins from the US mint then all the idiots working there would be out of a job since they are not fair to the loyal customers .

sam tweedy

They don;t care they are all ILLEGALS.!!!!!

Len

I agree with you all I per house hold , we should not buy from theses so call dealers >Let the sit on the coins ,I will not pay 4x the price for this Item.

Joe

Nothing to add. Just wanted to vent to some folks that might be able to sympathize. Had the exact same issue: in the cart, nearly 20 mins of “oops, something went wrong”, then it was gone. Just sucks that the people who just want one for their collection, NOT to resell, can’t have one. I’m certainly not gonna pay thousands of dollars for one later. I missed the pride of two nation’s the first time around, but was able to get one after them being initially unavailable. Maybe something like that will happen this time.

c_q

Ah, I had the coin in my basket promptly at noon but could never get past the very last part to ‘confirm order’ – it kept resetting. Eventually it said that the item in my basket was no longer available and I should remove it.

So, too bad not getting this but there is NO WAY I will go secondary for this, unless of course I could get it for less than $70 or so. It’s nice to have, but I will survive just fine without it.

Andrew simon

Boycott this coin , kill the value and keep it at bay . This was a scam set for dealers . Dealers were using multiple prepaid cards and addresses. I personally know somebody that was able to order to two separate addresses with the same check card . Multiple PO Boxes also used. And what about a possession time limit if you have something in your cart you should be given at least a Five minute window of possession so you can check out. you can’t reach your hand into somebody’s grocery cart at the grocery store when they are… Read more »

Steve Burnett

Very good point! I had the exact same happen to me. It was in my cart then I got to the payment screen, entered my payment information pressed the place order button and boom “Oops something went wrong”. HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN?

Gary Stein

I experienced the same issues everyone here experienced but somehow managed to get confirmation from the mint that I will receive one. Not sure if this makes a difference, but I also ordered the 2019 Proof Set at the same time. Perhaps that made a difference. I plan on sending the reverse proof coin to PCGS, but wondering how that will work with two orders ending up in the original sealed government packaging. I guess I’ll find out.

Andrew simon

United States meant has two business days to process orders and cancel at their discretion, I believe the way that the handling of the release of the 19 XE coin was a complete disaster. people Including myself had that coin in their cart checking out and yet it was a rat race to the finish line and the item was stolen as I see it from our carts Seeing that the United States mint has two business days I believe in all fairness all orders should be canceled and re-release this coin. At least give people a five minute window… Read more »

Agree 100%

Andrewsimon

I took a screenshot every step of the way to prove that you could have something in your cart and checkout and have it stolen out from under you

Christopher Williams

I wish I would have thought of that at the time, Andrew. I post a ton of blogs/threads on autographs (forgeries), etc. and I would have posted one on this.

Jokester

Don’t hold your breath on cancelling all orders.

Andrew simon

For everybody that had a coin in their cart and they were checking out I think it is time to start contacting the BBB and FTC about this.
Otherwise everybody that had a coin in their cart should have their transaction honored or a complete cancellation and rerelease of this coin. A recall and re-release would also add to the whole story of this coin and make it even more desirable

Carl

APMEX has 70’s with 4 different holders listed.

Mike

Once again the mint has dumped on collectors to enrich the corporate coin dealers and flippers. This was a contrived rarity from the beginning. Knowing the collector base for this is at least 75,000 this was a scam. I have been increasingly put out with the Mint’s abuse of its collector base and this is it for me.

Mike

Better yet, I plan to contact Treasury’s IG.

Dan

Did I get a Coin ? Yes I did ! Did I have all the problems listed on this site regarding purchasing this coin ? Yes I did ! I think the major point here being missed is…if you have it in your cart and you are on the final review screen…like i was… the sale should go through…the site was having sooo many issues it crashed…and left us with the coin in our cart stating it was no longer available. that is what many of us find completely unacceptable….If you are going to put out a product in limited issue, you better have the software and systems in place to handle the traffic you KNOW will occur. Complete fiasco and public relations disaster.

My daughter had a coin as far along in the buying process same as you and at the very end.. Same result . No Coin

For those of you who were able to purchase one I hate to burst your bubble and for those of you who didn’t hope this makes you feel better. This coin will not be all that it’s cracked up to be. It will not be like the 1995W Prf SE. I managed to buy a prf 69 for $2000 in 2001. The coin market is dead sad to say. And there aren’t collectors out as there were back in 1995. Since 1995 there has been no proof SE coin that has topped the $5k mark (not even in First Strike… Read more »

After I calmed down, I started laughing because I thought to myself who would be crazy enough to by this coin for $2300 bucks as per some of the Ebay listings. It would probably take 50 to 100 years for that coin to approach that value. If ever.

Steve Burnett, I agree 50 years from now tops.

Unless price of silver goes to $500 an ounce in 10 years.

That’s true (which it might), that’s with any ASE you may have not that the collectible value went up but only the melt value.

It took me the entire day to calm down I was pretty livid. I smoked two blunts of great marijuana which I should’ve done way earlier after this fiasco but I was so pissed that I did not smoke. I was thinking about it today and I still think it was a bullshit fiasco I was awaiting my confirmation number.Oh well good luck to the dealers trying to find an entire Fanbase because I know 90% of the people who did not get this coin are NOT going to pay the ridiculous asking prices. The mint failed to recognize a… Read more »

I too hope to pick one up later at a reasonable cost. Then the 95-W will be the only one (proof or rev-proof) I wont have, to date. I recently did that for a few coins I let slip by years ago, to get (almost) complete. I though the odds would be low in getting one (I was thinking a million people would be after this at this price – so 3% chance, but I see in other replies thats not as conservative as I thought). And I’m not ready to stop buying from the mint. The order process CAN… Read more »

30,000 pieces minted will never be cheap. I don’t foresee the price getting below $500 ever in my opinion and that’s for a raw coin. One at a PF70 may never get below $800.

Your observations are right on spot! The U.S. Mint’s customer list has dropped from about 1.2 million people in 2014 down to 500,000 last year in 2018!
The market is dying a slow death unfortunately.

That’s what they said about sport cards in the early 2000, but the market today has never been better.

Sometimes I don’t agree with your input Seth, but totally support your position on this one, just sent my thoughts to the email address you provided.

Stephen

I definitely agree with sending emails, but have also gone a step further. Send hand written or typed letters with all information. Send them so they have to be signed for by the recipient with a return slip to you by the USPS for your records. I also agree with whoever said a class action lawsuit should be filed. If anything it would get the answers we coin collectors deserve, and bring the changes we want to see, as well as put the greedy big boys out of business. I for one am up for that! I’ve sent two letters… Read more »

Seth is right – here is the message I just sent: I have been a collector of US Mint products for over 30 years and have to let you know how disappointed I am over the fiasco of trying to order an S Mint Enhanced Reverse Proof Silver Eagle on November 14th. I was signed in to my US Mint Account at 11:45 EDT and was successful in adding the coin to my “bag” but every time I tried to check out/purchase, the screen froze and I got the “oops” message. I tried to refresh for about 30 minutes then… Read more »

The mint should make everyone fill out a form saying you won’t sell it on ebay like Hess did in 2018 for the 85th anniversary Hess truck.

What i have really noticed are how many ungrateful, angry people there are in this community. Any website no matter how good it is maintained will crash when 100’s of thousands of people are logging on to buy the same exact thing. hackers do it all the time to crash websites. For those that got one, congrats (i got one), and yes, i am not happy how it went down, but its part of the game. if you do not like it, get out of the coin game.

Dan

Bingo Carl !!! And I say , Have the US Mint give those who missed out on a purchase a Participation Trophy to make them feel better

Carl

Haha, they deserve it!!
