Collectors will need to act fast and likely have some luck in getting the newest United States Mint American Silver Eagle which is guaranteed to become a new key issue.

The 2019-S Enhanced Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle goes on sale today, Nov. 14, beginning at Noon ET. Production of the San Francisco Mint strike is limited to only 30,000 pieces, garnering its status as the lowest minted Silver Eagle to date.

Priced at $65.95, orders for the 1-ounce silver coin will be restricted to one per household. This limited release procedure should help some in obtaining one of the coveted coins, at least in the initial stages of availability, and if the Mint’s ordering systems handle the strain.

In addition to its very limited mintage, the coin has two other features that boost its appeal. First, it marks only the second time the U.S. Mint has produced an enhanced reverse proof Silver Eagle. The first debuted earlier this year in the joint U.S. Mint and Royal Canadian Mint Pride of Two Nations Set. That set held an edition from the West Point Mint and all 110,000 sold.

This CoinNews photo shows a 2019-W Enhanced Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle and a 2019 Modified Proof Canadian Silver Maple Leaf. The two coins were included in the earlier released 2019 Pride of Two Nations Two-Coin Set that sold out. The enhanced reverse proof Silver Eagle in the set was produced at the West Point Mint. The version for release today was produced at the San Francisco Mint.

The second item adding interest is that each coin will include a serial-numbered Certificate of Authenticity — a first for the United States Mint. Grading services are acknowledging the importance of this feature with encapsulation options for the COA. It should be noted, however, that the number on each certificate does not reflect the order in which the coin was minted.

Turning back to the coin itself, collectors will find its finish quite unique.

"This enhanced reverse proof coin has the same frosted background as a reverse proof coin, but what sets it apart are the multiple polished and frosted finishes applied to different isolated design elements," describes the U.S. Mint. "The selective polishing and frosting dramatically enhances the visual impact of the design."

Other design elements remain the same as previous incarnations.

The obverse bears Adolph A. Weinman’s full-length figure of Liberty in full stride. Liberty is enveloped in folds of the flag with her right hand reaching ahead and branches of laurel and oak in her left.

Around the image are inscriptions of LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and 2019.

John Mercanti’s heraldic Eagle with shield design adorns the reverse (tails side). Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER, ONE DOLLAR and E PLURIBUS UNUM on a ribbon held in the eagle’s beak. Additionally, the San Francisco mintmark of ‘S’ is found to the lower left of the eagle.

Specifications for the reeded edge coin include a composition of 99.9% silver, a diameter of 1.598 inches (40.60 mm) and a weight of 1.000 troy oz. (31.103 grams).

Ordering

Those interested in purchasing one of the coins and feeling lucky enough to try can do so when its released at Noon ET by visiting the U.S. Mint’s online store of silver coins.

Phone orders may also be attempted by calling 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Hearing- and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may order by calling 1-888-321-MINT (6468).

Plans also call for the coin to be available at the Mint’s sales centers in Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; and Denver.

Update: Late Friday afternoon, the U.S. Mint released the following statements to CoinNews:

"Yesterday, the Mint catalog website had more than 150,000 unique visitors and 1.6 million page views in the first hour of sales of the American Eagle 2019 One Ounce Silver Enhanced Reverse Proof Coin (19XE). For context, the catalog website’s previous highest traffic and page views were for the Apollo 11 product launch, when we had 124,000 visitors in one day and 863,000 page views in one hour. We are pleased with the numismatic community’s response to this product. The volume of traffic did briefly slow down our site response. However, after the first two minutes we were able to process over 1800 orders per minute on average. Completed orders were processed until all inventory was sold. Additionally, we identified approximately 5% of traffic as coming from bots, including 3% of traffic from a single IP address, of which zero orders were processed."

"At the moment of launch, there were 99,000 people online and 4700 callers waiting to purchase the American Eagle 2019 One Ounce Silver Enhanced Reverse Proof Coin (19XE). Completed orders were processed until all inventory was sold. We are constantly seeking feedback from our customers, and rest assured your voice is being heard."

There have already been 150+ of these on ebay for sale with the low price of over $300 and the high at $560.

Michael Cook

Sadly, it seems the scalpers are already out in force. They have no love for the hobby, just profit.

Mark D.

Pinehurst is offering $150 premium for orders confirmed before 4 PM today.

Mike Cook

Interesting, but I’m not selling mine, I’m keeping it for a long time to come, to enjoy and display it, and besides, the value on this will only go up over time.

Tim

Me too

Ken

I’m not selling mine or taking it out of box hope it increases in value. Doesn’t say sold out says unavailable keep checking and you might get lucky.

Chris

It’s interesting how people buy these they sold this coin back in July. Let’s make less and put a different mink mark and people will buy and go crazy! That’s how to make money I guess. I don’t collect these. I collect pre 1933 world gold coins and sovereigns less hype and just old fashion coin collecting and history. Plus sovereigns have a lower mintage than silver eagles!

ATB lover

beware a lot of Cheater on Ebay ! too many scum , make me not buy or sell anything from there.

Dan

yep PFS is a buying club very popular within the jewish community (run out of brooklyn). they send out the word, and probably get about 10,000 buyers lining up quite quickly. they’ll win big on this one, but in the past they have mis-anticipated demand and paid out premium on coins with no secondary market premium. if you view this kind of buying club as unethical, one way to combat it is to sign up for fake accounts and say you are participating when you are not. this will cause them to get lower yield than anticipated

Appears web site crashed…cant get in

Mike Cook

Keep at it, I was there right at 9 AM PST, and while there were a few glitches, drop outs, refresh messages and other, fun stuff, I finally got my order placed, it took a few minutes to get it done, though.

Jimbro

And just like that the website crashed.

Utterly predictable

Chris

Crashed Really!! That’s because all the company’s can buy them and sell them for 1000 dollars! Collectors are pushed out. Disgusting and bunch of idiots. Mike from HSN got in I’m sure such a conspiracy!!!!!

douglas vernon

He probably got his before they went on sale.

Michael Cook

Who?

Peter Gordon

After getting refresh messages every couple of seconds, after 10 minutes, I was able to get my order in.

ShinyPAQuarters

Same here.

Mike Cook

That’s about how long it took me to get my order in, I was there right at 9 AM PST (I’m in California), too.

Scott

I had the coin in my cart but couldn’t check out. Now it’s unavailable. Think I might be done with the US Mint

Foxman69

Same experience, Scott

Mark

Exact same thing. It’s sitting in my cart, but won’t let me check out. Been buying from the mint for 20+ years and never had this happen. Total BS!

ShinyPAQuarters

I agree.

I got mine, but I had to refresh 2 dozen times.

lonnie

same thing, at least 15 refreshes.

domenic

same here ugh!

Craig

same here… screwed over good. that refresh message, and now I have an invalid product code in my cart.

Guy Azbell

Same here got it then it said sorry its sold out.

Manuel Garcia

Same here

B_123

Same

Total BS!

:p to the US Mint

Mark

I had my mom, dad, brother, and myself all on the website to try to get 1 and none of us got 1.

Peter Gordon

And now, the product is unavailable. About 12 minutes after 9 am.

domenic

OMG STATUS NOW UNAVAILABLE! I GOT TO POINT OF FINAL REVIEW BEFORE IT CRASHED AGAIN

Kennygee

I git there three times and it kept crashing. A lot of people had that problem. If the mint site can’t handle the volume, have a lottery.

Melissa

Same here.. I was even able to push place order and it was confirming my order than it crashed. I’m so mad. It’s still in my cart. They shut it all down, no live chat, phone line is busy, which I’m assuming they closed the lines down too. It doesn’t say sold out, so I’m guess because it was all a shit show, they just shut it all down? I hope go back on sale and fix their system to handle the traffic.

michael

This product is currently unavailable.

Foxman69

Yep…just like we figured…wait and see the dealers who end up offering these by the dozen

Richard Margolis

The site crashed several times, but I checked my account and I have an order number. I assume that I will get a coin. At 11:59 am, the phone lines was busy, so I assume that people callled the operators to hold a place until 12:00 pm. I am sure that the big boys have their coins

Mark

And PayPal was currently unavailable too.

Sherril

That was a bust refreshed for 10 minutes and when it finally worked they were gone!!!!!!!!!!It is a totally rigged process………………..Not fair!

Carl

The mint website is a JOKE!!

Kennygee

The mint has become a joke

Mark

Someone from Canada some how got one and is selling it on Ebay and that makes me mad.

michael

Close to 300 postings on Ebay.

Melissa

Notice they all say item no longer available? That’s most likely because they had to take their listings down because they didn’t get a coin either. I do see one that has people biding on it. It’s was at $400 something when I checked, but still 11 hours left for bids..

Dyna

They are already sold out. Those ebay sales are people saying they will have them because of promised arrangements with people who are buying a few hundred at once to make that profit.

erv

What a crappy website. Been trying to check out for over ten minutes and then the product in my cart became unavailable. I am about through with buying their products.

Craig Poore

Some people may look at getting on and flipping it as a bad thing. I look at it as being able to trade a coin for a few extra presents for my children’s Christmas. I still may hold onto it, but that will be decided after a good bit of reflection.

gary

told me i had an invalid item in my cart which i didn’t now unavailable

Rick Orta

I am so disgusted with the US Mint. Using both the website and 800 number, I was not able to get pass the busy signal or the site kept crashing. I kept opening up windows to the web site but kept getting an error. The 800 was just as bad, either it go to busy or just not go thru.

Christopher Williams

I was there, had it in my bag, but i knew immediately there was problems with the website when the PayPal option wasn’t there.

Tried again with a CC, but it kept crashing. I was hopeful, but not optimistic that I would get one.

The majority of the time, when the production is limited, I get in, but not this time.

domenic

I hear ya… signed in at 9am… it crashed…… i finally got as far as final review…then bam!…not available…. and the entire checkout process had to be done twice t get to that point….. extremely frustrated with US mint on this one.

Glenn H

Yep, had min in the cart, site would crash, get back in, wouldn’t take the CC I had on file, tried different card, crash, crash, crash, then final confirmation, sold out….

Jesse Orpinel

system crashed on me tried three times before sold out

Mark

My coin is still in my cart but that means nothing since the site crashed like 20 times and the coin sold out.

Christopher Williams

Yes, and beware of the scammers for this coin. If you read some of the auctions, they read “Arrival time Dec. 15th-Dec 29th.” Stay away from them. They are looking for a short-term loan.

Dennis

My order number is in and in “processing”!!! 🙂

Michael Yeager

Web site kept crashing. Finally got 1 in my “bag’. Half way through typing in my information, suddenly product no longer available. What the hell???

Collector

Greed, Prue greed!!! The US Mint should press a crap load more and teach these greedy folks a lesson!

Jesse Orpinel

same with me

Mark

Once it’s in the bag you should be able to get no matter how long it takes for the payment to go through.

Smith John

At the website, I had one in the “bag” about five minutes after the hour. I must have tried 7 or 8 times to check out – typing the credit card number, address, etc. and the checkout page kept reloading. Finally, the “bag” said the item is invalid, I did not check out to finish the order, and I did not get the product.

Chas Barber

I refreshed & loaded new pages like 10x, I had it in my bag but EVERY TIME I ENTERED my CC i went back to step one. Phuckin joke.

Thirsty1

How can the Mint let you put the coin in your bag, click on checkout then the system hangs up and when you are able to log back in the coin is in your bag but it want let you checkout? I was logged in before noon, had the coin added to my checkout within 15 seconds. Now the web page says “We’re sorry, but this item
is no longer available” but the coin is still in my bag. Damn!

Richard Margolis

I had similiar problem, as I checked the final page it crashed. The site would not restart, however I just received e-mail from mint confirming an order. I guess I just got lucky. Will keep coin, not for resale

sam tweedy

I had the same problem!!! CRAZY!!!!

Christopher Williams

I agree, Thirsty. I had it my bag. Like I also previously mentioned, when I did get to “Checkout” the PayPal option wasn’t there and then I got the “Opps” message.

Chas Barber

I refreshed & loaded new pages like 10x, I had it in my bag but EVERY TIME I ENTERED my CC i went back to step one. Phuckin joke.
It reamined in the bag but the mint told me to remove it, NO LONGER AVAILABLE, please call Mike $. Mezak…..

Chris

At least when ordering from the British royal mint they put u in a queue to place your order. Seems like us mint it crashes meaning the big boys can get there coins. I agree total BS!!!

Rob S

I was teased as well. Made sure I was logged in, had my CC in my account, it was having issues populating my CC info, needed many refreshes. Even got as far as saying the mint was processing … then crashed again. Dont think it went through.
Thats what ya get with a $70 coin with a 30K limit I suppose. I got through on the palladium (last year and this), but this coin? – nah.

Will have to go after-market, maybe APMEX or, *gulp* HSN. lol!!

Chris

I just got an email saying product notification shop now. Well it’s sold out us mint get ur act together!!!

Danny

This is ridiculous, I’m never buying anything direct from the US Mint ever again. Their offering system is unfair and antiquated, this is the year 2019 not 1999. Computer orders are not suppose to keep crashing, why has the US Mint failed to update their computer and are they ever going to? I bet there are 12 year olds that could do it for them in no time at all. The US has the lowest quality and most outdated mints of all G7 countries, what an embarrassment. My local coin dealer is already offering $500 for this coin with the… Read more »

Glenn H

I had the coin in my cart at 9:01 PST, but the site kept stating oops, something went wrong after I put in CC information and I would have to refresh. Did that at least 15 times. When it finely went to the confirmation it stated that the item was no longer available. RRRRRRRR

Thirsty1

Same here…

Bootsy

The EXACT same thing happened to me. Wish I could just have 1 for my collection. Can’t the mint do this another way? Make more? Have a lottery system? Something where we don’t have to play these games and waste our time with a broken website. Beyond frustrating.

Brian

Ridiculous, Absolutely Ridiculous. The mint needs to be shut down and the entire staff fired. What a Fiasco.

Danny

Amen, Brian! Well, at least the Mint Director and computer engineers or programmers should get the axe.

KEN FELTY

iT’S BEEN 53 MINUTES SINCE 19XE WENT ON SALE. iT’S BEEN 33 MINUTES SINCE THEY ARE UNAVAILABLE. after 54 MINUTES ALL THE PHOMES ARE STILL BUSY, CHAT IS NOT AVAIALABLE, WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY SELLING???

Melissa

I don’t think their selling anything.. They turned off chat and their phone lines. It was s hit show and they closed it down, now we are the one’s who lose out.

Collector

Everyone please look at the site Dan posted. This is a major part of the problem. Worth a look .. “doctorofcredit” article where they pay people to order for them! Makes it harder for the collectors to obtain the product.

Dan

to be fair doctorofcredit is just a deals website, but they are receiving a commission for referrals to PFS (which influences their decision to push PFS’s sketchy business). PFS is the real culprit. another deals website that pushes them is dansdeals (very jewish-centric deals site, they offer raffles for trips to israel and such). pro-israel btw, its just worth noting the jewish connection. PFS buyers club is based out of brooklyn and is well known in the jewish community (stemming from connection to dansdeals… and now doctorofcredit). the part that annoys me is they way undersellthe purchase agreements to ignorant… Read more »

Collector

I agree. anyway you look at it, it is WRONG!

Stephen

I’m done with the U. S. Mint. Had the coin in my bag four times, only to get booted out every time. At what point do they do a lottery or something different so everyone has a valid chance. It seems the Mints web site always crashes, it’s just an excuse. I’m completely done with them, and going to begin selling my entire collection. Dealers, the Mint, and tv hosts have ruined this hobby with their greed in taking advantage of collectors, and I’ve grown tired of it all. I should say there are some good and reputable dealers out… Read more »

Bootsy

Exact same thing happened to me. I just wanted 1 for my collection. I’m not here to profit off anyone or anything.

ATB lover

Dont Sell this Coin on eBay, ! !! Buyer can return it without any reasons!!!! They may return u with regular Proof coin ! Beware ! I had that experience !!!!

Danny

Wow, what a nightmare. I’m sorry you had too go through that. Thanks for the heads up though.

David

While it took refreshing about 100 times due to the website crashing, I got an order number just before it went unavailable. I count myself lucky. This will go well with my Pride of Two Nations set.

The US Mint really needs to do something about their website. The traffic was anticipated. No reason for it to crash.

Additionally, they should probably have the coins reserved once they go in someone’s shopping cart so people don’t get pissed when they enter their payment and shipping info only to see the product no longer available.

ATB lover

they just need increase the mintage to 1million coins! it will be much Smoother !!!

David

I wouldn’t be a buyer with that high of a mintage. The interest is largely due to the limited mintage.

domenic

AGREE on the once its in your cart! This fiasco seemed to be the worst. So disappointing…..

David

My order was confirmed about 45 mins ago. I was stressing a little so I feel good and lucky now.

Christopher Williams

Now check this out. I went on Ebay to buy one. I purchased one for $329.99. The seller write in their title “Confirmed Order.” Thirty minutes later, he cancelled the order. So I bought another one for a little more and guess what–That seller cancelled the orsr also. Then on go on Ebay and they are selling for $150.00 to $200.00 for more than then the $329.99.

Christopher Williams

Also, what I really hate is that I am unable to leave Negative Feedback for those sellers who cancelled my orders. The Ebay “Purchase” disappears. That isn’t right!!!

Christopher Williams

And checking Ebay again, I cannot believe my eyes the number of low-feedback sellers who have these for sale. Scammers paradise.

Frank

Call ebay and notify. They will put a strike against their account so they can’t sell.

Christopher Williams

Interesting also the number of Ebay sellers with low feedback of 3 or less were able to acquire one.

Carlos

I’m sorry for everyone that wasn’t able to get one but I would try to set a reminder if more become available. There will be a lot of orders cancelled… In my situation, I have about 1,000 orders that are “processing” due to all the website crashes and constantly hitting refresh on my computer. I checked my bank account though and none have actually posted. I am trying to get in contact with the mint to see what is going to happen with all these orders and if it’s possible to get just one confirmed. I would love to post… Read more »

Melissa

Same happened to me.. No way to get in touch with the mint at this time because they shut down their phone lines and shut off their live chat too. So frustrating!

shawn

I am not sure how but I got my order through and have a confirmation e-mail. My order got through at 11:03 my time. It crashed at least 15 times and then it was there.

domenic

WOW, just got the FORSEE us mint survey pop up window….man did i slam them on THAT survey!

T. R. Williams

??

Adam L

Took me almost 11 or 12 minutes but I guess I got one just waiting for the confirmation email.

Christopher Williams

I believe a few of the members also mentioned this, but I have a feeling hundreds of people will discover in the next day or two that their “Confirmed Order” has been “Cancelled.” Tons of Ebay refunds in the next 24 hours.

Eric

Once it’s in the cart you should be able to get it no matter how long it takes, End of story ! ! !

Mark

You damn right brother .

T. R. Williams

I knew this would happen, just like the 2017s Proof. I had 11 friends and family lined up to order. None of us got thru. All had the same problems many of you did. Then, at 12:17, one of my friends from California sends me a text with a picture of the Order Confirmation from the Mint. She got thru! Good news, right? Not really. I’ve been selling on eBay since 1999, and put one coin up as a pre-sale auction last Sunday. It has 15 bids, 55 watchers. So, do I become a jerk and cancel, keeping the coin… Read more »

D.STEINKE

I WILL NO LONGER DO BUSINESS WITH THE MINT. I AM DONE.

Mike

What a joke! For some unknown reason the mint did not give the option to pay through PayPal, so I had to scramble to get a credit card. I was still able to get my order placed and got a confirmation # when my order completed, however, I still have not received an email confirmation. Crossing fingers that it went through.

Eric

Some of us don’t carry a credit card with us 24/7 so I should be able to use paypal when buying online, what’s the point in having my mint account connect to my paypal account it it’s not available when it’s needed.

Mike

My feelings exactly. All my purchases have always been through PayPal and I have it linked with my Mint account. It would have been a nice courtesy if the Mint made an announcement and informed customers that paying through PayPal would not be an option today.

Mark

I should have called out from work today so at least I could use my credit card from the safety of my own home.

Frank

No the mint wasn’t able to handle the volume. Phone lines busy at 11:57. Online ordering extremely slow. Finally showed in my bag at 12:02. Wouldn’t let me check out. 2:30 Eastern phone lines still busy (or disconnected) !
