Gold futures ended slightly lower for a third straight session Tuesday. Silver also finished off on the day after rising on Monday. Platinum and palladium, meanwhile, gained.
Gold for December delivery edged 60 cents, or 0.04%, lower to settle at $1,487.50 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,484 to a high of $1,492.10. They declined 0.4% on Monday.
"Gold and silver appear to be on a fulcrum, as some renewed optimism on trade is offering pressure, but the upcoming Brexit vote(s) in Parliament is adding a level support," analysts at Zaner Metals wrote in a daily note reported by MarketWatch.
Silver for December delivery slipped 10.2 cents, or 0.6%, to settle at $17.50 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $17.44 and $17.68. They rose 0.1% on Monday.

January platinum gained $3.80, or 0.4%, to $896 an ounce, ranging from $887.80 to $896.40.
- Palladium for December delivery added $3.20, or 0.2%, to $1,728.50 an ounce, trading between $1,720.90 and $1,739.70. Last Wednesday, they scored a record settlement of $1,735 an ounce.
London Precious Metals Prices
In comparing earlier fixed London gold and silver prices from Monday PM to Tuesday PM:
- Gold declined $6.30, or 0.4%, to $1,485.35 an ounce.
- Silver fell 10 cents, or 0.6%, to $17.625 an ounce.
LBMA platinum and palladium prices are available on the LBMA’s website with a delay of midnight.
