Gold futures rose 0.6% on Monday, Oct. 14

Most precious metals registered gains Monday. Palladium logged another new record while gold finished ahead for the first time in three sessions.

Gold for December delivery settled up $8.90, or 0.6%, to $1,497.60 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.

"Reassessment — which is why gold is seeing a little fluctuation below 1,500, it’s a reassessment of the Chinese trade deal, the Brexit and of what the U.S. Federal Reserve may or may not do going forward," Reuters quoted George Gero, managing director at RBC Wealth Management.

"The dollar index is up and keeps gold from a major rally, because international investors are buying U.S. securities using dollars."

Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,487.10 to a high of $1,501.50. They dropped 1.6% last week.

Silver for December delivery added 16.6 cents, or 1%, to close at $17.71 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $17.45 and $17.74. They gave back 0.2% last week.
