2019 Kennedy half-dollar
The United States Mint is now selling rolls and bags of 2019 P&D Kennedy Half-Dollars

New United States Mint products featuring the halves include a two-roll set for $32.95 and a 200-coin bag for $139.95. The set holds 40-coin rolls with one from the U.S. Mint’s facility in Philadelphia and one from the facility in Denver. The 200-coin bags contain 100 half-dollars from the Philadelphia Mint and 100 half-dollars from the Denver Mint.

Kennedy half-dollars have been released annually since 1964. The 50-cent pieces were authorized by Congress shortly after Kennedy was fatally shot in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963. They were issued into circulation until 2002 when poor demand left the U.S. Mint producing them only for numismatic purposes. The chart below shows production of the coins since 2000.

2018 5,800,000

*The 2019 mintage is for the year to date. However, since half dollars now have relatively modest annual mintages and they are made solely for coin collectors, usually their production is concluded early in the year and there is no need to make more.

All Kennedy 50c obverses (head side) contain Gilroy Robert’ portrait featuring the 35th President of the United States. The image has remained basically unchanged since its 1964 debut. Inscriptions around the portrait include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and 2019. A mintmark of ‘P’ or ‘D’ is shown to indicate the production facility of Philadelphia or Denver.

Shown on the coin’s reverse (tails side) is a modified Presidential Seal as designed by Frank Gasparro. This design was also introduced on 1964 half-dollars and has appeared annually with the exception of 1975-1976 when Independence Hall of Philadelphia was depicted. Inscribed above the seal is UNITED STATES OF AMERICA with HALF DOLLAR below.

0oooh more JFK halves, I’m giddy…….this series may mint until 2063………………..time to put Franklin n back maybe!!

lonnie

not the franklin-its too ugly. but how about the walking liberty, they are beautiful. i do agree, it is time for a replacement.

Munzen

IMHO the design should have been reverted after a year, with some other portrait chosen after the requisite 25-year interval was up. Keeping JFK’s picture on the half (not to mention continuing to mint it in silver till 1969) doomed the coin from the get-go. It’s been out of general use long enough that the Mint could start with a clean slate. There’s no longer any reason to keep the old 30.6 mm size either. The Mint should downsize the coin, maybe make it multisided or bimetallic, pick a new design (Teddy Roosevelt? the space program? something else?) and get… Read more »

just wait they will soon come out with a Kennedy-W mint mark and the series will go crazy again. Look at the parks quarters and the Lincoln cents how they have taken off

Chas Barber

“Taken Off” huh, there is zero in the public eye on the “RARE” w, – AS to the cent, ok but who has a book with holes for these……they will never be ‘rare’ & the # of all collectors keeps falling – sorry to be a negative Nelly but really these gimmicks are useless to get NEW BLOOD into collecting. Here in So. Cal I have only seen 1 2019 ATB & not a “W” there are NONE @ banks, stores, change machines, etc. All back east & already sorted through by Mr. Loomi$

If Jack go’s, then they all go there all old. George* Jeff Man* Big Abe* Rosy* These guys can’t be replaced, & Jack is the baby of the bunch. Uncle Benny could have stayed, but they used the Eagle & not his Turkey. Plus he did not want to live in a White House 😉 😉

Bud

Young Jack* would have been put on the $200 bill if that were the case. :hmm:

Doesn’t anybody in here just enjoy collecting coins, or is it all like this now?
