Many of the elderly, (mostly retirees living on a tight budget) lucky recipients of these exclusive coins, not available to the public, opt to sell them to coin dealers & collectors for extra spending money. I purchased my birth year Maundy coin set for 1962 about 20 years ago from a coin dealer here in the U.S. who specializes in all coins of the UK. It is such a great tradition of the Christians, especially since the King or Queen is the head of the official church of England - the Anglican Church, also known as the Church of England, which all Royal family members must be a member of by tradition.
