The U.S. Mint is shoddy when it comes to customer service, let me tell you. I ordered 5 $1 Apollo 1 ounce coins, got one when they claimed they shipped 5. That was on January 26th and It took me up to 2.5 months to get a refund on the 4 missing. They have NO clue what they are doing, each manager and or cust rep tells a different story.

Too bad I used debit card for original purchase, had it been credit card, I would have snatched the money back myself…

Something is very wrong with them.

I looked today to buy a NGC PF70 Kennedy and the absolute lowest price today (after waiting a while to let the dust settle) is $128. I doubt that it will drop any lower anytime soon. Sometimes you can find a graded coin cheaper than doing the submission one’s self, so I thought I would check. The folks calling the clad set “deadweight” seemed to have been mistaken. As a Kennedy coin collector I knew that there would be a lot of interest in this coin. Since you have to buy the set to get this coin for a coin collection, and since ebay prices are usually much higher, I knew that the clad set would sell very quickly at the mint.
I would have preferred that the Kennedy coin was silver as most of the Kennedy coins in my collection is Silver with a few exceptions. I do buy any clad that has a special feature. The Kennedy in the Apollo set is the first ever “enhanced” reverse proof so that is an added draw to its appeal and value.

The Kennedy is at $139.00 by itself and a 2 coin set is $165.00 today. Many are more and few are going for less.

Hi Brandini, I would send that coin back and quickly order another one right now before they sell out. I have received five of the fifteen that I ordered, three or four of which are perfect PF70’s and the last will grade PF69 because of one tiny pinprick dent near the top edge of the obverse field, just above the second “L” in the word DOLLAR. So the odds are very good that you will receive a perfect coin in exchange for that lemon, good luck. These are the most spectacular coins that I have had the pleasure of holding during my forty years of coin collecting!

Good question I was wondering the same and then last year I got the answer live on the actual show. He pays all his employees, family, friends, and even additional people that offer to buy the coins for him and sale them to him for a very reasonable price. That’s what the guy said last year. Not sure if its true or not given the quantities he has but? Im sure the US mint does some shady stuff. I just found out and read on PCGS that to have a first day of issue designation you 1 have to have the coins there that same day or no later than the next to have that designation it says, and large orders must be placed. That’s BS. If a regular collector like me bought it first day and its sealed they should be able to get that designation as well not just companies especially if the freaking coin is still sealed and receipt shows purchased 1st day. All I can get is early, first release, first strike but not the same as first day even though it was exactly that but a coin dealer can. How do coin dealers even get all of their first day of issue coins to NGC and PCGS on the first day or even the next? The US mint doesn’t even offer same day shipping? Hell I did next day and didn’t even get my coins for 4 damn days. Something shady is going on. I think the mint is allowing large coin dealers to place early orders, then they are shipped straight to PCGS, and NGC for first day of issue designations without ever being shipped to the companies first, they just go straight to PCGS. How in the heck else could they get to the graders so quickly? Anyways. Sounds like bull to me. Mike could be lying as well, he may get his orders placed early as well. Look at the crazy premiums Mike at HSN is hawking coins too compared to PCGS and NGC that dude is nuts. I will never buy a coin from him but I do watch the show sometimes. Lol. The guy is charging 3 times as much as NGC and PCGS for dumb Anacs crap that real collectors do not buy. You can hardly give Anacs coins away on Ebay. Haha
