Obverse, side, and reverse view of the Mint’s new 3D coin showing a leaping cougar

This collector coin is struck in an ounce of 99.99% fine silver and designed by Canadian artist Matt Bowen. Its reverse shows a colorful cougar (Puma concolor) in mid-leap.

"The leaping cougar is made possible by the innovative use of printing, embossing, and engraving technologies," the Mint describes. "Its positioning creates the illusion that the wild cat is leaping across the coin."

Inscribed around the design are CANADA, the coin’s legal tender face value of 20 DOLLARS, the year 2017, and ‘mb’ for Bowen’s initials.

Obverses (heads) show a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt. Around the effigy are inscriptions of ELIZABETH II and D G REGINA. Blunt’s initials, ‘SB’, appear on the portrait bottom left.

Matching the first release of the series, the 3D Breaching Whale coin, major specifications for the new collectible include:

  • Composition: 99.99% pure silver
  • Finish: proof
  • Weight (g): 31.39
  • Diameter (mm): 38
  • Edge: serrated
  • Certificate: serialized
  • Face value: 20 dollars
  • Reverse Artist: Matt Bowen

The mintage of this piece is lower than the first, at 6,000 from 7,500.
