Platinum Eagle, Ozark 5 Oz, Anniversary Set and Ellis Island Quarters for July and August

Summer months are among the slowest of the year for United States Mint product releases. This year appears typical in that regard. The U.S. Mint needed to set aside only four days for launches in July and August. With that being said, there are anniversary products scheduled that are not only unique for each month but also for any year.

Products for July include the 20th anniversary edition of the proof American Platinum Eagle and an uncirculated 5-ounce silver coin honoring Ozark National Scenic Riverways in Missouri.

Struck in 1 ounce of 99.95% platinum, the proof Platinum Eagle has always featured annually changing reverses. This year’s coin marks the series’ 20th anniversary. In commemoration of the event, it bears the original 1997 designs. It’s available Thursday, July 6, for $1,300.00.

Launching on July 11 for $149.95, the Ozark Riverways silver coin has a 3-inch diameter and 5 ounces of 99.9% fine silver. It marks the third 2017-dated release from the Mint’s program of America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins™. The first issued honors Effigy Mounds National Monument in Iowa and the second celebrates Frederick Douglass National Historic Site in Washington, D.C. The pair has sales of 15,388 and 14,640.

Products for August include the 2017-S 225th Anniversary Enhanced Uncirculated Coin Set, which we just talked about on Monday, and rolls and bags of circulating quality Ellis Island quarters (New Jersey).

Produced at the Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco Mints, Ellis Island quarter products available Aug. 28 include two-roll sets, three-roll sets, 40-coin rolls, and 100-coin bags at prices ranging from $18.95 to $46.95. The quarter is the fourth release this year from the U.S. Mint’s series of America the Beautiful Quarters®.

It would be nice to know what the 2017 S 225th Anniversary Enhanced Uncirculated Coin Set would cost. Either way I will be getting at least one. And depending on the cost of the PCGS coins I would like the whole set graded. But if the PCGS are a bit to high I’ll settle for the NGC since it seems that they have been going for less. I wonder why that is? Are PCGS just riding on a high now and maybe, just maybe, PCGS will have a sort of bubble burst and end up in the same range as… Read more »

PCGS graded coins almost always bring a premium in the marketplace, especially older coins. Last year, the top 20 U.S. rare coins sold at auction we’re all in PCGS holders.
