Canadian 2017 $20 Coin Uses Pearl Pieces to Embellish Flowers

A new collector coin from the Royal Canadian Mint brings the button-like flowers of the pearl yarrow to life by combining traditional sculpting with genuine mother-of-pearl embellishments.

Each coin is minted in one troy ounce of 99.99% pure silver to a numismatic proof finish. Only 6,000 will be sold.

Coin reverses (tails side) depict the pearl yarrow (Achillea ptarmica) with three floral-shaped embellishments crafted from mother-of-pearl to re-create the flower’s snow-white double blooms. Two bees are seen approaching from the left. The design was crafted by Canadian artist Margaret Best. Inscriptions around the artwork include CANADA, 20 DOLLARS, 2017 and MB for the artist’s initials.

 

Obverses (heads side) show the Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, D G REGINA, and SB for the artist’s initials.
