Unbelievable low sales of the RR C&C set! I guess the Mint is hoping that Holiday Season sales of these sets will help (Hanukkah & Christmas). They have a mess on their hands for sure with the stupid decision to have such a high mintage on these sets.

Not sure if 150,000 is a proper number, but I think the U.S. Mint over the last couple of years has taken lots of flack from collectors over the Eisenhower C&C fiasco, low numbers on Trueman and Ike C&C, tie that in with the popularity of Ronald Reagan, well I think the Mint decided to error on numbers minted.
An added word to those who mentioned delivery time. I live in Iowa and most orders arrive in 5 days; this was supposed to arrive in 7, actually 8 days and the outer shipping box looked like it had been through some tough times.
All in all, I’m happy with this C&C. You see it is what it is. I’m enrolled with the U.S. Mint to receive the Proof SAE, now I’ve got 2. Didn’t need the stamp because I collect stamps and already have the Reagan stamp. I’m happy with the reverse proof for my collection, I’m not a flipper. You see, I’m one of those people that got knocked off line with the Eisenhower C&C, I don’t have all the C&C so I’m happy with the ones I’ve got.

You are right, the Mint probably thought they could goose the sale of the proof ASE by including them in the RR C&C set. What they didn’t think was to include a very simple one liner on the folder on why it was included, but that is par for the Mint ..

I wonder how many folks wanted a silver medal instead of a run of the mill, common looking ASE with a mintage in the hundreds of thousands with an edge lettering that one cannot even see unless one squints at the edge through the capsule or a TPG holder … .. I know I wanted a silver medal .. and only bought the set while holding my nose in order to complete my Prez C&C collection.

I placed two orders for the Reagan set (one order for one set and the other order for two sets).

I placed the Two-Set Order first and received it five days after I received my order for one set.

Go figure.

By the way, my Reagan set was sent out on 10/12/16. Monday will be the 12th day in transit from MS to CA. Still no sign of the set. It has been stuck somewhere between Elk Mountain, WY and CA for the last 5 days. Fedex tracking says “delivery is pending”. Delivery originally was supposed to be on 10/20/16. Anyone else in CA having this problem?

The ASE is unique with the First Edge Lettering. For Silver Dollars though, the 1992-D Olympiad Commemorative has that distinction.

As for Presidential C & C’s, Ford was almost as big a Moron as Nixon, neither deserved the Reverse Proof Dollar.
The 30th Anniversary is appropriate I suppose, but the 50th will most likely be more interesting if the Moronic Mint doesn’t change the design before hand.
I suppose it depends on one’s interest for collecting.

I think the Mint wanted to push sales of the 30th anniversary ASE this year thinking collectors would rush to purchase this set. Didn’t happen! And you are right that the description next to the silver $1 coin should have mentioned Reagan’s involvement in the initiation of the Liberty Coin Act of 1985 that started the program. The booklet does list on page 19 the Act, but doesn’t give any details. A missed opportunity IMHO.

I got my RR C&C set a few days ago….. the set is okay but the Proof ASE sticks out like a sore thumb. And someone who doesn’t know about RR signing the legislation that made ASE’s possible would be confused …. AND the Mint in all its (lack of) wisdom did not even include a line on the folder stating why the ASE is there …. instead of just saying this is a 30th Ann. Proof ASE … (since I don’t collect ASE’s so I could be off base, but that paragraph could have been lifted off the COA of the stand alone ASE’s COA or something ..)
