I feel your anger, especially since we collectors have to consider S&H & insurance & taxes as the total cost of buying a particular coin & it can really add up for sure!
Texas is one of only 7 states that has never had a state (or city or county income tax), but our state retail sales tax is 8.25 percent. Some states exempt coins & or bullion from sales taxes, but others do not or only over a certain $ amount. You can check it all out by looking up the Industry Council for Tangible Assets (ICTA) which is the numismatic lobby organization in Washington DC that works on numismatic taxation issues for dealers & collectors.
Austin is Great! ("Keep Austin Weird") & is like a small country within Texas!
Good luck to you & your Austin-bound family & friends.

Seth
As a RCM Masters Club Platinum Plus member, I used to get free Fed Ex S&H & no state of NY sales tax. Such a deal ! Now they want me to pay over 8% tax on my orders. Rip-off!! This is one of many reasons my son and MANY others are moving to Austin, and the GREAT State of Texas. Now sales taxes on mint products, how much do they need? I will not buy from them again, my loss, but I refuse to submit the larceny mandated by NY State.

It is per each state's sales tax laws (also the RCM uses a brokerage company in New York state for shipping USA orders). As a Texas resident, they don't charge sales tax on my RCM coin purchases. Some states charge tax on the coins & on the shipping charges. As a RCM Masters Club member, I get free Fed Ex S&H & no state of Texas sales tax. Such a deal !

Also the new RCM 4-coin square 1.5 ounce silver coins sold as a set only that form a Canadian Maple Leaf! Very nice. They will be offered to the public soon. I ordered both the niobium dragonfly coin & this square coin set early as a Platinum Masters Club member & can't wait to see them in person.

Happy collecting everyone!

Wait till you see the new niobium dragonfly coin that we RCM Masters Club members were offered the other day! Each iridescent dragonfly is hand-made by a jeweler & attached to the coin. Beautiful coin & will sell out fast!
