US Mint Sales: Reagan Dollars Pull Back

4

Sales of U.S. Mint collector products grew slower during the first week of August following gains that peaked to a 2-1/2 month high in the last week of July. Nearly a dozen of them actually moved backwards. Circulating-quality Reagan dollars led those declines.

2016 Ronald Reagan Presidential Dollars and 25-Coin Roll
The U.S. Mint adjusted sales lower for most products with circulating-quality Ronald Reagan Presidential $1 Coins. Reagan $1 25-coin rolls from Denver fell by 373 while those from Philadelphia declined by 364.

Five of the six Reagan dollar roll, bag and box products retreated, accounting for a combined drop of 39,575 coins. Their overall sales, now totaling more than 3.9 million coins, are still poised to pass those of earlier 2016 dollars for former Presidents Ford and Nixon.

The U.S. Mint published sales updates to 237 collector products. Seventy-four of them outperformed their prior weekly sales compared to 132 previously — the strongest level since the week ended May 22. Like in the prior report but to a lesser degree, many of the 2016 commemorative coins were among products to post the strongest increases.

Its weekly losses include amounts of 192; 166; 165; 10; and now 61. Its new total is 9,224 of the originally allotted 10,000 coins.

Mike Unser & CoinNews readers FYI – “It’s no secret that the numismatic hobby is declining.”, said US Mint Director of Corporate Communications Tom Jurkowsky this week. The low sales figures from the US Mint 2015 Annual Report to Congress shows this fact to be true unfortunately. The Mint’s active customer list has decreased significantly in the past two years according to Principal Deputy Director Matthew Rhett Jeppson in his report to Congress. But, he doesn’t know why! Great comment, Seth!!!

Look at the sales of the “2016 NPS” coins.

Sad.

Unfortunately, you can look @ stamp collecting for where WE are heading. Coins & bullion will always have their intrinsic value, but in 10, 15 years who will care about a 1939-D Jefferson….or a reverse proof ASE of which ter are +100k minted, it will be melt value most likely. Kids don’t care., coins & money are alot sexier then stamps, but the collecting aspect is going away as there are no newbies say under 35/40….IF the mint made say 10/20% silver coinse for circulation then maybe change pluking would return, but as we have it we have a problem… Read more »

When the U.S. (f.u.b.a.r.) Mint forced me out of four-in-a-row historical coins with stamps – I quit buying from them. Period. Gold, silver, and platinum offerings especially.

All four were within 10 minutes of going on sale – and their $10 million dollar website was about as fouled-up as their high school educated management team appears to be on the whole.

They have really been fouled-up since 2008 – look at the mintages. The graphs tell a story of a thousand words. Even their phones do not work.

Sadly…
