US Mint Gold Coin Prices Expected to Drop on Wed., May 25

Prices on U.S. Mint gold coins, like the proof 2016 Gold Eagles, will likely fall on Wednesday

On Wednesday, May 25, the United States Mint will likely trim prices on its suite of gold coins for collectors. Reductions would be as large as $50 for every ounce of gold they contain.

U.S. Mint policy is to set their gold coin prices based on a weekly average of London gold. The agency last adjusted prices earlier in the month when gold leapt to within the range of $1,250.00 to $1,299.99 an ounce. The yellow metal has since tumbled to below $1,228 an ounce.

If Wednesday’s LBMA gold price for the AM stays below $1,263.46 an ounce and it remains under $1,250 an ounce for the PM fixing, expect the following changes across these gold products:

The United States Mint made four pricing adjustments earlier this year, raising them each time with the last instance on May 4. Past adjustments have tended to happen on Wednesdays at around 2:00 p.m. ET. This article will get updated with what actually happens.

Update: As expected, the Mint reduced its pricing on Wednesday.
