I just heard of this and agree with the other poster. Why just breast cancer. I am sorry for those that are stuck down by it and it needs research but so does a lot of other diaseses. My husband died firm lung cancer never smoked worked with jets in the Air Force. Why isn't there a coin for each cancer awareness group not to meantion other diaseses as well. Will not continue to buy coins from the mint.

Is this needed? Is our gov't now going to use our coinage to "advertise" causes?

Why breast cancer when heart disease and lung cancer are the leading cause of death for women? Why breast cancer when the leading causes of death from cancer for everyone includes lung, liver, stomach and colorectal cancer ahead of breast cancer? Why breast cancer when men are more likely to die from any cancer then women - men 1:4 - women 1:5.

These questions are not to diminish the needed research to find a cure but an argument for why is breast cancer so deserving of this kind of attention. Shouldn't the effort be to eradicate all cancer just a President Nixon declared.

It's too bad they couldn't have been a little more adventuresome and given the mint the challenge of putting rose gold plating on the silver dollar similar to that shown in the Canadian $3 coin above. I know it's copying the Canadian mint (even if they patented it - pay the royalty) but I think that would have been a really striking, unusual, and attractive coin and an ultra fast sellout on issue day.

Rhonda (Kay) Unser -

Thanks for the update on a great commemorative coin program! The South Dakota Black Hills rose gold often associated with jewelry will make a beautiful color for the $5 gold coin. And the surcharges will go to a great, important cause. Early detection & research is the key to defeating this type of cancer. Thanks for providing a link to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. A great resource for all. I look forward to supporting this coin program.
