You are so right about these kitschy, novelty colorized coins. They are often available about a year after issue for about half the original issue price! I even saw a tv coin dealer show that I watch for laughs offer the entire colorized RCM Canada animals on coins series from 2015 at 50% off issue price earlier this month. Amazing situation for sure!
But the RCM does offer much better quality control than the U.S. Mint overall on all their coins.
