Precisely the point in why the US Mint has not embraced the fad of the decade, colorized coins. Some of them are just plainly silly, some poorly executed, some overpriced. In fairness, some are beautiful, but still, a passing fancy. All those 50 percent discounts should be a reminder to spend your money differently. At home. With the home team.

You are so right about these kitschy, novelty colorized coins. They are often available about a year after issue for about half the original issue price! I even saw a tv coin dealer show that I watch for laughs offer the entire colorized RCM Canada animals on coins series from 2015 at 50% off issue price earlier this month. Amazing situation for sure!
But the RCM does offer much better quality control than the U.S. Mint overall on all their coins.

$79 US is a wee bit steep when silver is $15/oz.
