The 2015 Eisenhower Coin & Chronicles Set includes a 1969 6c stamp, a reverse proof $1 coin, a one-ounce .999 fine silver medal, and an informational booklet

United States Mint sales of the 2015 Dwight D. Eisenhower Coin & Chronicles Set begin today at noon Eastern Time. Held in the set’s blue presentation folder are:

  • One reverse proof 2015-P Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential $1 Coin.
  • One Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Silver Medal.
  • One Dwight D. Eisenhower 1969 6c postage stamp.
  • An information booklet chronicling Eisenhower’s life and presidency.

This year’s first Coin & Chronicles Set honoring Harry S. Truman sold out within 15 minutes of its launch. It’s now selling in the secondary market for around $180 to $220. The Ike set will also sell out, but it should last longer with an ordering limit that is three lower at two sets per household.

This set’s silver medal is from the United States Mint facility in Philadelphia, struck on the same blanks as those used for the agency’s flagship American Silver Eagle products. Its designs are from the Eisenhower bronze inauguration medal from 1953. The obverse or heads side offers a profile of the president. The reverse or tails side shows the figure of Freedom which stands on the dome of the U.S. Capitol. The scene to the right of the figure represents the eastern half of the United States, with a farmer and city buildings beyond the hills. On the left of the figure are the pioneering forefathers blazing the westward trail.

Below are photos of a Eisenhower Presidential bronze medal and a U.S. Mint image of the silver version that is included within the chronicles set.

For coin collectors, the set’s real gem is its exclusive $1 coin in reverse proof finish. The United States Mint has struck Presidential $1 Coins since 2007. The reverse proof is only the second from the dollar series, with the first one inside the previously mentioned 2015 Harry S. Truman Coin & Chronicles. Opposite of standard proofs, reverse proof coins have frosty fields and raised mirror-like devices.

The U.S. Mint in Philadelphia Mint makes the silver medals and the reverse proof dollars but only the dollars have the ‘P’ mint mark.

The Mint also included a reverse proof coin in the 2015 March of Dimes Special Silver Set. This photo shows a regular proof (left) and a reverse proof (right).

Forthcoming sets will honor former presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. They have on-sale dates of Sept. 16 and sometime in October. Each will also include a silver medal and a reverse proof $1 coin. Kennedy’s set has a higher limit of 25,000.

One coin dealer made the remark that the U.S. Mint did not do such a good job on making the first Presidential reverse proof. And because of that there were far less PF70s therefore making the ones that were available cost over a $1000. I wonder if the Mint will have better results on these reverse proofs than there was on the first ones? Either way I am happy with the Truman set I got and I’ll be happy to just get the “one” I hope to get when I order. And by the way I also got an email… Read more »

OH, GOOD LUCK TO ALL ON THEIR ORDER!

Annie

Well Truman and Ike doing pretty well. Kennedy, Johnson and Reagan
might be collapse.

Annie

Theodore Roosevelt chronicle set is catching up. Average eBay price at $165.00 per set.

welovecoin

FDR still on sale .the mintage lower than JFK .Will it rising soon?

Terry

Re the Theodore Roosevelt….I saw that price increase also. Less than 15,000 total sales (less than Truman)…I think they will continue to increase….has anybody seen any of the coins from that set graded? I’ve got a bunch in unopened boxes from the Mint…

Dave

Holy crap! Logged into Mint’s website 5 minutes before noon. Once the set went on sale the website slowed to a crawl. Took 5 times longer to purchase this than the HR Liberty.

Broadwing

Wow, I got knocked off four times trying to process my order from the payment section. Finally got through at 12:07 with a confirmation. Scared for a few minutes. Hope all goes well. Only got one set for me.

george glazener

already sold out….in less than 10 minutes….unbelievable…

Christopher Williams

I got my order for two in, but it looks like right after that a problem occurred with the site.

Broadwing

12:14 checked site “PRODUCT UNAVAILABLE” That was quick.

S. Buckles

Tried seven (7) times to order within the first 5 minutes without success! I AM DONE ORDERING FROM THE US MINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Terry

Still trying to pay for my 2 in the shopping cart…..website unresponsive…error messages….really bad. On a good note, my girlfriend got 2 🙂

OWell

I had trouble getting the purchase through as well, finally went through at around 12:08. Honestly surprised how the website performed. Now just waiting on the confirmation email, good luck to you all!

Jippy Joe

That was fast, got 2…barely

Joe Coincollector

The mint web page has apparently crashed. I was in the middle of confirming my order. I don’t know yet if I was successful.

dondk

it was 12:08 when it went unavailable… WOW, that is over 2,000 a minute

Joe

Site crashed. How much are one of these sets worth?

JAN

website error accured ! what happen to mint website? like few years ago.

Bill

I had massive trouble ordering two in one transaction. The page wouldn’t update the cart. I just went ahead and ordered one at a time, receiving the confirmation page on both transactions. I received a confirmation email from the mint on the first one. I have not received a confirmation on the second set. I feel reasonably confident I will get at least one set.

Ilovesilver

I know People using Program Buying on it, like on stock market

Eddie

Just made it, 12:08

Ilovesilver

I guess the mint need to re-issue this reverse proof coin to make collector happy

Jack

All gone…….lol

Jerome Goldstein

Got knocked off five times at noon trying to checkout my 2 sets, but finally succeeded.

Broadwing

There are going to be a lot of complaints about this offering as with most of the limited mintage products. I did notice that on the site it did say “Mintage unlimited” then Producr mintage -17000. You better bet your socks their coming out with special sets for reverse proofs in some form or another.

terry

Ebay now $209 per set

ed

Crash…in and out.. but order finally went through

Mike Unser (CoinNews.net)

The U.S. Mint indicates that they sold 16,820 sets in approximately 15 minutes. Also, all 17,000 sets are at their fulfillment center for immediate shipping.

Bill

Good news. At 12:29 pm. I received an email from the US Mint that the Eisenhower Coin and Chronicle set is now available. Typical government operation to send the notification email 20 minutes after the product is sold out. LOL!!!!!

john k

5 crashes but got my 2 sets..how about a lottery..pick 15,000 entries from a barrel..oh wait..thats how I got drafted..bad idea

Bill

I ordered the set at 12:01PM. Got thru the WHOLE process went to the print out your order and was kicked off the site at 12:03. Never got a confirmation of order like I always get. They must be selling to only coin dealers. I wonder how HSN shopping network got 10000 of the 75000 march of dime sets now I know. US MINT corrupt like the rest of the government. Thanks US Mint for making coin collecting a past hobby no fun anymore.

Gary

Didn’t have as much of a problem at the mint’s site as I thought I would. Got two sets and paid at 9:05 pacific time. Haven gotten confirmation yet, so still holding my breath a little. Fingers crossed, but haven’t had previous problems once the card went through. Good luck to all on getting their sets confirmed and shippec!

Do you think that the Kennedy set will go in nine minutes? Limit set at 25,000?

Legend

THE US MINT SCRUBBING CUSTOMERS ORDERS!!! I was on line at 12:03. I got my order form ready and was ready to check out by 12:08. I had all my data in: My credit card, my address, my order data, total of two for the two sets. I pressed PAY NOW. And if this were a legitimate offer to purchase, I would have received a notice that I had items were indeed purchased. INSTEAD, THE ENTIRE ORDERING PAGE WAS COMPLETELY RESET!!! Not just the blanks to fill in, folks, THE PAGE ITSELF WENT AWAY. It was replaced with a new… Read more »

Once again, I failed to put my order in. The mint website absolutely was in a state of paralysis and nothing worked. I give the mint an “F” and a “0” for a job poorly executed. As such, I withdrew my name from their roster of clients. Never again, never again, and never again shall I place an order with the Mint. I’m through! Absolutely last class service and a disgrace and a dis-service to existing customers.

Boz

Legend, we feel you pain. Similar results for many of us.

Bill

Nothing from them yet. Remember I placed order clicked the placed order tab all was fine then went to print out that is where i got kicked. Gonna check credit card and see if it was charged. If not Grand kids won’t get any more coins. I will be thru with them. not the kids the just coin collecting as a whole.

Bill

Legend I place mine at 12:01 was done at 12:03 the latest. Nobody buy anything from the tv shopping networks that the only way to stop this. They certainly will have theirs I’ll record the next broadcast and see.

Christopher Williams

I wanted to add that there was a hiccup during my ordering process.

I chose my default CC, but I clearly noticed that, except for my name, the other fields were not filled out.

I simply had to wait for the page to refresh on it’s own, which it did. And that was at 12:02.

I just received an email from the US Mint confirming my order.

Mary Jo Stasko

I was on by 12, order kept getting reset, kept reording. Website crashed several times. This is a first for me, never got a confirmation. Very messed up.

Nugchompa

Has anyone received an actual confirmation? I received only the acknowledgement. Not sure if that means my order was successful or not.

Jippy Joe

Received acknowledgement email immediately, JUST received confirmation email with order details including pricing …was getting worried there.

OWell

I have not recieved a confirmation yet but my order was listed as “PROCESSING” and “Being Processed.” Still no idea what that really means.

Eric

I too had the same issues everyone is describing. However, I was finally able to pay for the item. It looks like my credit card MAY have been charged twice (I’ll keep an eye on it) but I did eventually get my confirmation email from the Mint for my two sets. Best of luck to all still unsure if theirs went through.

Joe

HSN and The Coin Vault, probably has the majority.

Whistler

Ordered @ 9:00AM, @ pay screen, there was an error, then another error the next time, then an error & a re-set to the IKE set page, then I got to the pay page & again error, then”unavailable” @ 9:12am PST…WTF….I have been around for along time, but this whole thing is BS, I had the same boot off issues, some tricky sheet is going down!

OWell

So my order went “On Hold” for about 5 minutes and then upgraded to “Processing” anyone know what that means?

Broadwing

I just received my confirmation e mail from the U.S. Mint. I didn’t order the Truman set because I don’t really like the Presidental Dollar series. I just figured I would take a chance for one and then sell it at a later time with the Ike Set. I will try for the Kennedy set and will keep that one as he was my favorite president. Not to sure about any others, we will see…..

Zman

Same results as many. On at 11:55, had two in my shopping cart, but was unable to finalize the transaction. Don’t know how many times I hit “Pay and Confirm” and had to resubmit all of my CC data. Finally got the “Remove from cart. THIS ITEM IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE”… Really? Ugh, such BS!!!

David

Purchase was successful but pages very slow in populating and refreshing. With the reduced limit they had 8,500 (17k/2) transactions rather than 3,400 (17k/5) to process. Maybe they should considered a staged rollout where the price starts out at like $200 and then drops every day until it hits the target.
