The 2015 Eisenhower Coin & Chronicles Set includes a 1969 6c stamp, a reverse proof $1 coin, a one-ounce .999 fine silver medal, and an informational booklet

United States Mint sales of the 2015 Dwight D. Eisenhower Coin & Chronicles Set begin today at noon Eastern Time. Held in the set’s blue presentation folder are:

  • One reverse proof 2015-P Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential $1 Coin.
  • One Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Silver Medal.
  • One Dwight D. Eisenhower 1969 6c postage stamp.
  • An information booklet chronicling Eisenhower’s life and presidency.

This year’s first Coin & Chronicles Set honoring Harry S. Truman sold out within 15 minutes of its launch. It’s now selling in the secondary market for around $180 to $220. The Ike set will also sell out, but it should last longer with an ordering limit that is three lower at two sets per household.

This set’s silver medal is from the United States Mint facility in Philadelphia, struck on the same blanks as those used for the agency’s flagship American Silver Eagle products. Its designs are from the Eisenhower bronze inauguration medal from 1953. The obverse or heads side offers a profile of the president. The reverse or tails side shows the figure of Freedom which stands on the dome of the U.S. Capitol. The scene to the right of the figure represents the eastern half of the United States, with a farmer and city buildings beyond the hills. On the left of the figure are the pioneering forefathers blazing the westward trail.

Below are photos of a Eisenhower Presidential bronze medal and a U.S. Mint image of the silver version that is included within the chronicles set.

For coin collectors, the set’s real gem is its exclusive $1 coin in reverse proof finish. The United States Mint has struck Presidential $1 Coins since 2007. The reverse proof is only the second from the dollar series, with the first one inside the previously mentioned 2015 Harry S. Truman Coin & Chronicles. Opposite of standard proofs, reverse proof coins have frosty fields and raised mirror-like devices.

The U.S. Mint in Philadelphia Mint makes the silver medals and the reverse proof dollars but only the dollars have the ‘P’ mint mark.

The Mint also included a reverse proof coin in the 2015 March of Dimes Special Silver Set. This photo shows a regular proof (left) and a reverse proof (right).

Forthcoming sets will honor former presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. They have on-sale dates of Sept. 16 and sometime in October. Each will also include a silver medal and a reverse proof $1 coin. Kennedy’s set has a higher limit of 25,000.

I got my set in about 7 minutes after it went on sale, I was kicked out twice on the payment page. I printed my confirmation with order number but that order number is not in my history.

Goat

Submitted my order of 2 @ 12:02 EDT. Got confirmation of order at 12:22 EDT Woo Hoo

Broadwing

Zman, if you had two in your cart before the ordering started legitimately at 12:00 noon EDT, I have no pity for you. They shouldn’t allow any order period until 12:00 noon. Then you take your chances like everyone else. If the system allows you to sit there five minutes early with two in your cart that’s BS.

Ilio

Had problems with the site timing out, which was probably what most folks had problems with (not crashing). Problems are most likely due to way more people trying to order to get a piece of the action. There’s got to be a limit to available bandwidth, esp. with so many folks trying to order. Still got the order in by 1202.

Steve

Same problems, had all the info saved and they booted my off. I was all set, 1 button away from 2 sets. Never Again !!!!

OWell

Order confirmation at 1:28 EDT

Kaisersosa969

I tried to order it from 12:00 to 12:15 with no success. Twice, I finally got to the click on confirm order and it wouldn’t let me confirm, by 12:15 it was sold out. They really need to come up with a better system to help the little guy collector have a chance to buy such small issues…maybe a lottery system for known or registered accounts. I’d rather have a slim chance with a lottery than no chance with their ordering system. HSN and E-BAY win again.

Whistler

Don’t worry kid, a seller on eBay has 14 sets available & confirmed- BIN @ 399 each…it’s a “steal”…….All I can say is dees nutts….

Christopher Williams

There are sellers on Ebay who have them listed (just one set) at $1,999.99 “Buy It Now” or “Best Offer.”

Is that crazy!!!

steve k

I had mentioned earlier that I got my set but when I went into the order status page is was not in there. I signed out of the site and went back in and it’s in there now.

OWell

I see eBay sellers selling them for $400 a piece and 2 for $760…ridiculous. Probably will climb

Christopher Williams

One seller just sold four sets for $750.00 (Best Offer accepted).

Dave

Received confirmation at 12:46 Eastern time. I too had all kinds of problems with the checkout page reloading, refusing my card on file, and clearing default values. Finally switched to another card and it went through. Start to end was about 8 minutes. On a brighter note I just went in and bought the Roosevelt set with no problems.

EBay postings for the Eisenhower set are going through the roof! I’m seeing posting for 20 times the purchase price!! The sharks are swarming!

Christopher Williams

Speaking of HSN and Mike “Sold Out, Limited Edition” Mezak, I did a YouTube video on him and his buddy Alan “I Get My Coins In A Sandwich Bag” Cranston years ago.

Christopher Williams

One set is already at $305.00 with four hours to go.

jim

The Mint’s “explanation” of the problem is not accurate. Like others above, I was shut out numerous times just after high noon while trying this product. At 12:10 I was able to pull up my purchase page, but when I went to confirm my order the web page told me that the product was “no longer available”. Statements from the mint saying that their (supposedly unrelated) web page problem would not have prevented orders from being filled at 12:10 p.m are inaccurate.

Whistler

ANYONE paying $400 for this set is a fool

NJMANGA

I logged in 11.59, refreshed page twice once 12 hit, saw add order to bad added two, went to checkout, cc for card failed twice, than clicked submit order, failed once 12:03 order submitted successfully, got confirmation immediately than final confirmation at 12:20, I had 3 crashes but luckily I kept calm Im use to site crashes on ordering day of new releases, I just hit refresh and by miracle my internet connection kept up long enough to make order, it refused to releases the site until order was done lol

Mike

Went on the web site at 12.00 placed my order everything went through checked my e mail for confirmation did not appear called the US Mint they told me my order was never placed they can kiss my ***

Eric

I placed my order for two. I plan on keeping one set (since first and foremost I am a coin collector) and am looking to trade the other set for the Truman Coin and Chronicle. Here’s to keeping my fingers crossed that I can find someone willing to make this trade.

wt

Eric!! Will trade you my Truman !! wm.mary@roadrunner.com

Eric

@wt I attempted to shoot you an email but it got kicked back.

Tinto

A lot of folks who were successful getting the Truman and other similar limited Mint products in the past probably used the same method to try to get this one. I know I did, but the result was totally different … what happened? The Mint’s explanation of “Hey you dumb clucks .. you didn’t use the right link … serves you right!!” is totally full of nonsense and is probably spoon fed by the folks that supposedly ran the Mint’s website and order system flawlessly … puke

Eric

Agree with you Tinto. In the end the US Mint is there to make money. They don’t care where it comes from and quality really hasn’t been much of a concern lately either (as evident by the rim damage and scratches on most of the American Liberty High Reliefs). They just want cash in hand… after all, they are part of the Federal Government. As for the site crashing, this is completely unacceptable. They were suppose to have this fixed after the American Eagle Set fiasco.

Chris

As someone who’s order went through (lucky me!) I have to say, that this particular offering from the mint just demonstrates that their ultimate goal is to pull off one big con. By making the mintage so low, too low in my opinion for such a popular coin series, i.e the presidential dollars, they are trying to condition the public into knee jerk reactions every time they issue some new off beat product. At the very least they should have kept the mintage level the same as the Truman Chronicles set. Now with the mintage level for the JFK Chronicles… Read more »

Christopher Williams

Chris, I believe the John F. Kennedy “2015 Coin & Chronicles” mintage will be 50,000 not 25,000.

http://www.coinnews.net/2015/07/29/2015-jfk-coin-chronicles-set-limited-to-50000/

Chris

Chris Williams, You are correct. 50,000 JFK sets it is! And the mint plays us all like a fiddle!

I was also wrong about the Truman mintage. Both Ike and Tru at 17,000. Still too low, due to the inclusion of the reverse proof dollars.

Paul

The US Mint will do whatever it takes to screw over the average collector and pander to the big money Dealer and Flipper friends!

Ronn

Made sure i had optimal 4g signal on my phone, order in at 12:02, site crashed 3 times. Started new web page and went right thru, done by12:06. Confirmed order email from mint not until about 3:30!! Got two sets, i like the low mintage sets, gets some excitement into the newer offerings from the mint!!! As well as the ability to make some loot….

Bill

Wonder how many dealers got a memo stating the web site will be down at 12:04 but restart at 12:21 to fill their orders……..

Joe R. Alvarado

I wished everyone luck but I didn’t have luck myself getting the set. I didn’t have a problem with the Mint. I had a problem with my SLEEP! I can’t believe I OVER SLEPT !. LOL. Oh well, I’ll use that money for the graded coin. That money plus no telling how much more. LOL

Dwight

On their first day of release Tuesday August 11, 2015, the U.S. Mint’s issue price was $57.95 for a 2015 Eisenhower Coin & Chronicles Set. That same day ebay seller discountprices815 was able to resell them for $399 each as Item #291537319327. $399 – $57.95 = +$241.05 Windfall Profit.

Christopher Williams

With many of these sets being submitted for grading (I like my coins raw and ungraded), and with the first two being very limited, it will be interesting to see what happens to the prices when sellers begin selling the combined sets in one auction.

Christopher Williams

One seller on Ebay sold twenty-one (21) of the “2015 Eisenhower Coin & Chronicles” set.

Dwight

There is a solicitation from a buyer offering to pay only a $50 commission for pairs of U.S. Mint 2015 Eisenhower Coin & Chronicles Sets @ http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/news/general/332989/limited-time-commission-opportunity.html. P.S. please excuse my calculation error in previous comment. I meant to write that on August 11, 2015 ebay seller discountprices815 was able to resell U.S. Mint 2015 Eisenhower Coin & Chronicles Sets for $399 each as Item #291537319327. $399 – $57.95 = +$341.05 Windfall Profit.

Christopher Williams

Thanks for posting that Dwight. Very interesting.

“$50.00 above cost.”

Wow!!!

LOL.
