Every year the U.S. Mint releases four dollars as a part of the annual Presidential $1 Coin series that kicked off in 2007 and ends next year. The first 2015 issue depicts Harry S. Truman and launched on Feb. 5. The second commemorates Dwight D. Eisenhower and debuted on April 13. The last of this year’s Presidential dollars features Lyndon B. Johnson and is schedule for an August release.

Designs of 2015 JFK Presidential Dollars

Selected from among five design candidates, obverses or heads sides of John F. Kennedy Presidential $1 Coins feature a likeness of the president that was designed and sculpted by Don Everhart. The portrait is surrounded by inscriptions reading: JOHN F. KENNEDY, 35TH PRESIDENT, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1961-1963 to denote the years he served.

Everhart also designed the depiction of the Statue of Liberty that appears on the reverse or tails side of all Presidential dollars — not just those featuring JFK. Joining Lady Liberty are inscriptions of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and $1.

Also common among all dollar coins are edges that have inscriptions incused around them, with:

  • the year of minting,
  • the mint mark for the U.S. Mint facility where it was produced — ‘P’ for the Philadelphia Mint and ‘D’ for the Denver Mint, and
  • E PLURIBUS UNUM.

On circulation quality coins like these, edge inscriptions will vary in location unlike the collectible proof versions in other products like the 2015 Presidential Proof Set.

Coin specifications include a manganese-brass composition of 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel. Each coin weighs 8.1 grams, has a diameter of 26.49 mm, or 1.043 inches, and a thickness of 2.0 mm.

25-Coin Rolls, 100-coin Bags and 250-Coin Boxes

JFK dollars are available with several different options and at varying pricing levels. The rolls, bags and boxes are each available from either Denver or Philadelphia. The chart that follows breaks down the prices for each product.

Ordering Presidential $1 Coins

To add any of the above products to your collection, order them from the United States Mint’s online store via this link to its $1 coins, or call 1(800) USA-MINT (872-6468).

There are no ordering or mintage limits on Presidential $1 Coins as collector demand will determine the final number of coins produced since these coins are no longer produced for commerce. U.S. Mint production figures do show John F. Kennedy mintages at 10.36 million with 4.2 million from Denver and 6.16 million from Philadelphia.
