Nature’s immense power is on display with a new coin and subscription option from the Royal Canadian Mint. Making its debut is the proof 2015 $20 Summer Storm 1 oz. Fine Silver Coin, the first of four releases from the Mint’s Weather Phenomenon series.
Featured on the reverse of the one-ounce, 99.99% pure silver coin is a lightning-themed design that shows enhanced detail under black light. The 2015 Summer Storm coin is available individually or as part of a four-coin subscription.
Coin Designs and Specifications
Canadian artists Tony Bianco and Arnold Nogy designed the reverse image of the 2015 $20 Summer Storm Silver Coin, which depicts a rocky island in Ontario’s Georgian Bay with bolts of lightning in the stormy sky. When illuminated with an included black light flashlight, the bolts take on a "stunning life-like intensity and exceptional luminosity," according to the Royal Canadian Mint.
Inscribed around the image are CANADA, the coin’s legal tender value of 20 DOLLARS, the year 2015, and the initials of the two artists — TB and AN.
Obverses show Susanna Blunt’s effigy of the Her Majesty with inscriptions of ELIZABETH II and D G REGINA.
