A lot of families had someone who went over and some never came back. Our great grandfather Pvt Herbert Cooper Nevard lost his leg at Vimy Ridge and a large part of himself. My mom has his picture (in uniform before he lost his leg) in her living room. When he returned he named a daughter after the battle, my great Aunt Vimy. The story goes that my great grandmother (Elizabeth) wait for his return so that he could name his new young daughter. My Aunt Vimy(and her two sisters) always creeped out when they saw me as I had his eyes. He was in the 50th Battalion and we are very proud of our great grandfathers story. If you want to see the picture you’d have to talk to my mom & youngest sister.
