The Presidential $1 Coin Program, which honors four former presidents annually, is now in its 9th year. This year’s dollars feature the following commander-in-chiefs with surrounding portrait inscriptions of:

  • HARRY S. TRUMAN, IN GOD WE TRUST, 33rd PRESIDENT and 1945-1953. (Designed and sculpted by Don Everhart.)

  • DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER, IN GOD WE TRUST, 34th PRESIDENT and 1953-1961. (Designed and sculpted by Joseph Menna.)

  • JOHN F. KENNEDY, IN GOD WE TRUST, 35th PRESIDENT and 1961-1963. (Designed and sculpted by Don Everhart.)

  • LYNDON B. JOHNSON, IN GOD WE TRUST, 36th PRESIDENT and 1963-1969. (Designed and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso.)

Reverse images are common across the series. Each shows Don Everhart’s patriotic rendition of the Statue of Liberty, the nation’s symbol of freedom and democracy. Inscriptions are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and $1.

Unlike most U.S. coinage, Presidential $1 Coins do not have reeded edges. Instead, they have edge-incused lettering of the year of minting, the mint mark for the U.S. Mint facility of origin, and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

All four coins in this set bear the "S" mint mark to signify their production at the United States Mint facility in San Francisco, California. Every coin is, as the name of the set implies, in proof quality.

“United States Mint proof coins are extraordinarily bright, with sharp relief and a mirror-like background," the Mint describes. "Their frosted, sculpted foregrounds give them a special cameo effect."

Each coin’s composition breaks out to 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, and 2% nickel. They weigh 8.1 grams and have a diameter of 26.49 mm (1.043 inches).
