Precious metals advanced Wednesday — gold, silver and platinum for the first time in four sessions. Palladium extended its gains to three days in a row.
Gold for April delivery turned up $4.20, or 0.4%, to settle at $1,201.50 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold prices moved between $1,200.70 and $1,211.70.
"Today’s rally is a relief that we’re not in imminent danger for a rate increase, according to [Federal Reserve chair] Yellen," Bloomberg News quoted George Gero, a precious-metals strategist at RBC Capital Markets in New York.
Silver for March delivery tacked on 24 cents, or 1.5%, to $16.43 an ounce, trading between $16.28 and $16.70.
In PGM futures on Wednesday:
April platinum added $6.20, or 0.5%, to $1,168.50 an ounce, ranging from $1,164 to $1,177.20.
- Palladium for March delivery jumped $18.05, or 2.3%, to $808.05 an ounce, trading between $790.85 and $808.30.
London Fix Precious Metals
Earlier fixed London precious metals advanced as well. In comparing London bullion Fix prices from Tuesday PM to Wednesday PM:
- Gold rose $12.25, or 1%, to $1,204.75 an ounce,
- Silver gained 19 cents, or 1.2%, to $16.51 an ounce,
- Platinum added $6, or 0.5%, to $1,166 an ounce, and
- Palladium rose $15, or 1.9%, to $803 an ounce.
