Year of the Goat Lucky Money $1 Note

Earlier today, Dec. 3, 2014, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) started selling its latest lucky money product featuring uniquely serialized Federal Reserve notes.

To celebrate the Year of the Goat and honor the Chinese Lunar New Year, the BEP has printed uncirculated $1 notes bearing serial numbers beginning with "8888." The product is further limited to 88,888 units.

In the Chinese Lunar Calendar, those born between the upcoming Chinese New Year of Feb. 19, 2015 and the end of that 12-month calendar on Feb. 7, 2016 is said to be born in the "Year of the Goat." It is the eighth sign of the 12-year cycle of animals in the Chinese zodiac. Prior starting years include 1907, 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, and 2003. Those born in the "Year of the Goat" are said to be mild-mannered, charming, artistic and gifted.

Pricing and Ordering

Year of the Goat Lucky Money $1 notes are priced at $5.95 each, like last year’s lucky money celebrating the Year of the Horse. Also like last year, discounts are available in larger quantities with prices cut to $4.50 each when ordering 50 to 999, and as low as $3.95 each when ordering 1,000 or more.

There is a household ordering restriction of 500 notes during the first week of sale. This limit lifts on Dec. 10, 2014. Based on past releases, that date is when the BEP starts shipping the new notes.

For more information or to place orders, visit the Lucky Money Collection section of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing website at:

As pictured above, each note is inside a decorative red folder with gold foil and embossing.
