Canadian and Australian Coins Dominate Headlines

New world coins lived up to expectations in drawing fresh interest from coin collectors last week. The latest Royal Canadian Mint $20 for $20 silver coin was the most read article on CoinNews — despite its late posting on Friday night. We’ll talk about several other Canadian coins this week.

  1. Canadian 2014 $20 Snowman Silver Coin for $20 – The Royal Canadian Mint continues a popular series with its newly released 2014 $20 Snowman Silver Coin. Struck from 99.99% pure silver and like other coins from the Mint’s Exchange $20 for $20 program, each is sold at its legal tender face value of $20.

  2. Canadian 2014 $2 Wait For Me, Daddy Circulation Coin – Commemorating the 75th anniversary of the declaration of World War II, the Royal Canadian Mint has released into circulation the 2014 $2 Wait For Me, Daddy coin. It is also selling a 5-coin pack of them for $10. On coin reverses is a design inspired by an iconic photograph of a tender moment in Canada during the Second World War.

  3. 2014 Australian Gold and Silver Coins for October – Ending multi-coin series and new 2015 Year of the Goat coins headline October releases from the Perth Mint of Australia. The most anticipated issue, the high relief Hades silver coin from the Gods of Olympus series, sold out within hours of its release.

  4. US Mint Coin Production in September Climbs – United States Mint facilities in Philadelphia and Denver struck more coins in September than the previous month but fewer than a year earlier, circulating coin production figures published Thursday by the agency reveal. Figures show a September output of 1,004,240,000 in pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters for a 10% pick up from the previous month.

Pat Nixon and Betty Ford Gold Coin Designs Reviewed – The First Spouse Gold Coin program has been commemorating First Ladies of former U.S. Presidents since 2007 by featuring them on one-half ounce, 99.99% pure gold coins. The final year of the program in 2016 will honor Pat Nixon and Betty Ford, the spouses of the 37th and 38th Presidents, Richard M. Nixon and Gerald R. Ford.
