New world coins from the Perth Mint and the Royal Canadian Mint attracted the most reads among the 19 articles on CoinNews last week.

That’ll probably extend into this week since we have more coins from them to talk about and it’ll be almost two weeks before there’s another product launch from the United States Mint.

U.S. coin news last week centered on the Mint’s new website as well as some designs for upcoming coins and medals. We’ll have a couple more design articles this week and a piece on our visit to the San Francisco Mint.

  1. Canadian Hockey Teams Celebrated on 2015 Collectible Coins – Celebrating the winter sport of the nation, the Royal Canadian Mint has unveiled seven new 99.99% pure silver collectible coins with reverse designs emblematic of the seven teams of the Canadian National Hockey League®.

  2. Chinese Ancient Mythical Creatures Featured on 5 Oz Silver Coin – A new five ounce silver coin is now available from the Perth Mint of Australia. Dubbed the Chinese Ancient Mythical Creatures 2014 5 Oz Silver Proof Colored Coin and limited to 1,000, each is struck from 99.9% pure silver to a diameter of 65.60 mm — smaller but thicker than the U.S. series of three-inch America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Coins.

  3. 2015-2016 Proof American Platinum Eagle Design Candidates – Thirty-one design candidates for the 2015-W and 2016-W Proof American Platinum Eagle coins have been unveiled by the United States Mint and reviewed by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) and Commission of Fine Arts (CFA).

  4. 2014 Platinum Eagle Bullion Coin Sales Stop at 16,700 – Wednesday, Oct. 1, was the last day for distributors to buy 2014 American Platinum Eagle Bullion Coins from the United States Mint. Sales of the 99.95% pure platinum coins kicked off on Mar. 10, 2014 after a five-year hiatus. They will continue again in early January with new 2015-dated versions.

  5. 25th Anniversary Canadian Space Agency Coin Launches – Celebrating the Canadian Space Agency’s silver anniversary, the Royal Canadian Mint has released an achromatic hologram silver coin emblematic of the CSA. Each 25th anniversary commemorative coin is composed of one ounce of 99.99% pure silver and showcases a 3D design of a Canadian astronaut working in space.
