Our trip last week to the U.S. Mint at West Point was fantastic. We met the management teams, watched employees work their magic, saw 2014 50th Anniversary Kennedy half-dollars made and scored our names on walls of a vault where thousands of silver and gold bullion bars are held.

We’ll publish several stories about our visit. The early ones will focus on upcoming West Point Mint coins and the later ones will talk more about the steps of making and packaging them. One of the articles may be read now. Published Friday and linked below, it has several photos and a video of 2014-W Proof 50th Anniversary Kennedy Half-Dollar Gold Coins. It was the most read of the week despite its late release.

On deck are stories about the West Point depository of bullion bars and a photo summary of 2014-W Reverse Proof 50th Anniversary Kennedy Half-Dollar Silver Coins. Please return Monday for these two CoinNews’ articles. Until then, here’s a list of last week’s five most-read:

  1. Photos of 2014-W 24K Kennedy Half-Dollar Gold Coins – In size, Kennedy gold coins look just like typical halves with their 1.205-inch diameter, 2.16 mm thickness and reeded edge. Visually, the similarities from there begin to depart.

  2. UHR Gold Coin, Silver Medal Approved; New Silver Eagle Design Out – Two main messages were delivered via a teleconference meeting held Tuesday by the Citizen’s Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) — YES to a U.S. Mint proposed 2015 24-karat Gold Ultra High Relief (UHR) Coin paired with a matching silver medal and NO to a CCAC recommendation to change the reverse design of American Silver Eagles.

  3. 2014 Kennedy Half-Dollar Uncirculated Coin Set for Semicentennial – Commemorating the semicentennial of the Kennedy half-dollar with its first appearance in 1964, the United States Mint today released the 50th Anniversary Kennedy Half-Dollar Uncirculated Coin Set.

  4. Photos of 2014 Australian Kangaroo High Relief Silver Coin – The Perth Mint earlier this month started selling its latest annually issued 2014 Proof Australian Kangaroo High Relief Silver Coin.

  5. 2014 $5 Lion on the Mountain Silver Coin Third in Banknote Series – The Royal Canadian Mint continues its popular series featuring historic Canadian banknote designs with the 2014 $5 Lion on the Mountain Silver Coin.

What’s everyone’s feeling for these Gold Kennedy’s next week? Do you buy fast and hard? Personally, if I like something, I buy enough to sell on the secondary market to support me having ONE for free for me. No out of the pocket money. That’s what seems to keep the peace at home! Of course I always keep the 70 for myself. Happy collecting!
