Featuring selectively gold-plated silver coins, the series celebrates core teachings practiced by Aboriginal people throughout North America.

"Respect is one of the lessons in the Seven Sacred Teachings practiced by Aboriginal people throughout North America for a full and happy life," describes the Royal Canadian Mint. "While variations of these teachings do exist across the continent, this diversity only enriches them and underscores the universality of their wisdom."

Métis artist Nathalie Bertin designed the gold-plated image of the 2014 $20 Respect Seven Sacred Teachings Silver Coin. Inspired by the Woodland style of her Algonquin ancestry, the design showcases the unique relationship of respect that First Nations people had for the buffalo. The buffalo appears with an abstract likeness of a human lying on its back and holding a feather. A field of sage leaves is behind the two.

Inscribed above the design is CANADA with the legal tender face value of 20 DOLLARS inscribed below. Nathalie Bertin’s initials of NB appear under the buffalo’s head.
