Prices of numismatic American Gold Eagles could rise Wednesday by $50 per ounce of gold content

There’s a chance of price increases for a range of numismatic gold coin products sold by the United States Mint. These include the newly released 2014-W Proof Gold Eagles and the older 2013-W First Spouse Gold Coins.

Numismatic gold coin prices are currently based on a London Fix weekly average of gold that sits within the range of $1,250.00 to $1,299.99 an ounce. The current average has climbed one tier higher into $1,300.00 to $1,349.99 an ounce.

Wednesday’s AM and PM London gold fixings must still be considered. But with the gold average already solidly higher, the PM fixing is the one to watch as it will maintain current prices or trigger new ones. If it is at or above $1,300 an ounce, proof American Gold Eagle and First Spouse Gold Coin prices will shift higher by $50 per ounce of gold content.

Chances of that happening did slim today as gold prices tumbled toward $1,300 an ounce after reaching above $1,325 an ounce on Monday. The spot price of gold right now is sitting just above the triggering point.

Coin News Update: Collectors caught a bad break Wednesday. Gold prices moved below $1,300 an ounce with the London AM fixing at $1,299, but prices popped slighter higher by the PM fixing time to $1,301.50. The extra $1.50 triggered higher U.S. Mint gold coin prices for at least one week. The new prices are in the "To" column below.

The following table offers current and possible gold coin prices:

2013-W Proof First Spouse Gold Coins $840.00 $865.00
2013-W Uncirculated First Spouse Gold Coins $820.00 $845.00
