2014 Baseball Hall of Fame Silver Dollars Sell Out, Waiting List Added

Four of six 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coins are no longer available. The $5 gold coins sold out last week and the silver dollars joined them today, less than two weeks into their release.

2014-P National Baseball Hall of Fame Proof Silver Dollar
Sales of the Baseball silver dollars have been brisk. Today, the U.S. Mint said the number of orders they have taken has met the maximum limit. New orders are placed on a waiting list.

There’s still some chance at the silver dollars because the U.S. Mint just implemented its "Waiting List Notice." Anyone may place orders and get added to the list. If an order entered prior to the sellout is canceled, a spot opens up. The U.S. Mint will fulfill orders from the waiting list on a first-come, first-served basis. At least 400,000 orders have been taken so it’s only natural that a small percentage of them drop.

Coin News Update: The United States Mint removed the waiting list option in the afternoon on April 21, 2014.

Honoring the 75th Anniversary of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, the commemorative coins launched on Thursday, March 27 in proof and uncirculated formats of gold, silver and clad. The $5 gold coins sold out at their maximum 50,000 mintage within 24 hours with new orders accepted by waiting list only until the following Monday, March 31. It seems unlikely that the waiting list option will remain open that long for the silver dollars given the demand for them and the resulting volume of orders. Sales figures from the U.S. Mint this morning had the silver dollars at 97.7% of maximum with only 9,121 of the 400,000 unclaimed. That amount sold within seven hours. Splits at the time had sales at 257,183 for the proof coin and 133,696 for the uncirculated coin.

The last commemorative silver coins from the United States Mint to sell out were the 2010 Boy Scouts of American Centennial Silver Dollars. They had an authorized mintage of 350,000. It took just over a month before they were gone and that was considered quick.

Still remaining in plentiful quantities are the clad half-dollar baseball coins. They sport a similar curved shape and the same designs as the gold and silver options. Sales of the half-dollars last totaled 170,211 out of an available supply of 750,000.

To join the silver dollar waiting list or place orders for the half-dollars, visit the United States Mint website, right here, or call 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).

It’s official! The HOF coins are a hit, with collectors and speculators.

Now all we need is for the Mint to announce a special 3 coin silver dollar set, and a surprise additional 1 million baseball coins minted to meet demand.

Eddie

US MINT now posted “Product to be available for shipping 4/24/2014” for both of the HOF Silver dollars. This article states it is on waiting list only. Don’t have a clue…

Anyone know about any Curved test strikes from the 2005 Westward Journey Proof and Uncirculated 6 coin set? Been some scuttle-butt about one found among these sets….anyone?

Mike Irwin

I received my gold and silver HOF coins yesterday. Has anyone noticed that the uncirculated silver coins have a semi gloss finish unlike the burnished look of the proof’s baseball side?

NJMANGA

I have only received the proof clad and uncirculated clad last week , Im still waiting for my proof silver and uncirculated silver and uncirculated gold. on waiting list for 1 gold HOF coin but have already received bag…
Order shows backordered until July 7… highly unlikely coin will ever materialize…why would they ship bag way ahead of coin while only on wait list..? will I have to return the bag if order is never filled?? Mint has some mysterious practices…

Victor DeCurtis

The bag is the first thing to arrive. Everything else will be sent to you. You’ll just have to be patient.

There is a rumor circulating that there will be a series, with Babe Ruth to be depicted as the first HOF member to be thusly honored. If this turns out to be wonderfully true, these could outpace all other issues, and make a series which is both obtainable and revered for quality and relevance. I hope this rumor turns out to be true.

Mike Irwin

If that is true it would be a great series to go through, even as extensive as the ATB series. The only thing, its validity would have to be designated by gold coins before P.I.D.’s and clad coins after, just for suspicion’s sake.

The baseball US dollars are all curved. Is it possible for one to have no curve, flat in silver?
