Proof Set, Baseball Coins and Quarters End US Mint March Releases

1

The remaining days of March find several United States Mint products scheduled to launch, including a very popular annual proof set, highly anticipated National Baseball Hall of Fame coins and the second of the 2014-dated quarters.

2014 Proof Set, Baseball Clad Half-Dollar Coin, and Shenandoah Quarters
In ending March, the U.S. Mint will release its annual Proof Set, National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coins in gold, silver and clad, and products featuring Shenandoah National Park Quarters

Leading releases is the 2014 United States Mint Proof Set® that debuts on Tuesday, March 25. This set is extremely popular with collectors as it has fourteen strikes representative of the circulating coinage of the nation. These coins are composed of base metals like their circulating counterparts, but feature a proof quality finish identified by sharp reliefs and mirror-like backgrounds.

The proof coins are struck at the United States Mint’s facility in San Francisco and include the four 2014 Presidential $1 Coins, the 2014 Native American $1 Coin, a Kennedy Half Dollar, the five 2014 America the Beautiful Quarters®, a Roosevelt Dime, Jefferson Nickel and a Lincoln Cent. Of these fourteen coins, ten feature designs new for the year.

When released, the proof set may be ordered for $31.95 by going to the U.S. Mint website page found here.

Thursday, March 27, is the release date for the 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Program. This commemorative program includes $5 gold coins, silver dollars and clad half-dollar coins each available in proof and uncirculated qualities.

The program treads into new territory as the commemoratives are the first curved coins ever produced by the United States Mint. They feature a concave obverse and convex reverse. Shown on the common obverse is a depiction of a baseball glove with the likeness of a baseball appearing on the reverse.

Pricing for the commemoratives varies depending upon which is purchased. When released, the coins will appear on the U.S. Mint’s commemorative page found here.

Finally, on Monday, March 31, the United States Mint will debut several products containing circulating 2014 Shenandoah National Park Quarters. These are the second of five 2014 America the Beautiful Quarters.

Shenandoah quarter products include 40-coin rolls from the San Francisco Mint; two-roll sets of coins from Philadelphia and Denver; three-roll sets with one from each of those facilities; and 100-coin bags with buyers having the choice of location of minting.

When issued, these rolls and bags may be purchased directly from the United States Mint by accessing the Mint’s page for quarters found here.

I almost want one of these baseball commems just to play with it a little. They are pretty unique, among US coins, and those of other countries. I’ll wait though until they lower in price
