Hey everybody, how come a NGC69 limited edition costs way more than NGC70 er? It may be the same coin, but, labels make a difference. You can bitch all day, but, facts are facts. Better get them while you can!!!

Hi Kevin – You got the process down. Your intelligent purchasing methods will net you a nice nest egg when Silver prices recover (and they will).

I also cancelled my subscription with the US Mint years ago. Their customer service and profit margins leave a lot to be desired (their new sub discount is a move in the right direction (but when will they again adjust the price down right after issuing all of the new coin subscriptions).

I put the cross-hairs for the decline in the public popularity of coin collecting squarely with the US Mint coin designs and the ones writing the laws that are creating our new coins. Stay with the Silver and Gold coins. The clad coins don’t stand much of a chance for appreciation unless they are errors.

RBG, thanks for the tip. I’ve noticed on Amazon (besides selling my toner) more and more vendors are selling graded coins. Prices are varied, some going for more than and some less than the online auction sites.

As for this coin, I had previously cancelled my subscription with the Mint. With the general public’s temporary disinterest in coins (anecdotal resale value online) I see online auctions are a way for me to get these without….-shipping from the Mint, -shipping to and from NGC, -taking the chance of having half my coins graded 69, thus currently taking a loss if I sell those online. Usually if I wait about 2 months after a coin is released I get a perfect one through an online auction at a good price.

When prices pick up I may renew my sub. Of course, what will Mint premiums be then??

Knowledge is power.
I just realized I could get my printer ink way cheaper online at Inkfarm than at Staples. My guess is that it is the older generation that are not computer savvy and do not realize that you can get 3 quotes from an app like RedLaser or just Google search for an item.

I, too, don’t understand the psyche of these people. Maybe they are people who are not collectors who are unaware that the US Mint as well as the others sell coins directly to the public. Also it’s easier to dial one of these ads and be handled rather than trying to find usmint.gov on the internet. In other words they’re just plain lazy.

It never ceases to amaze that unknowing buyers will pay more to buy the same thing off of TV or print ads than they would directly from the mint. Plus buying from non-government sources makes them liable for sales and use taxes as well.
