Maple Leaf bullion coins from the Royal Canadian Mint are world-renowned. Now there are two new options available just for collectors.

2014 Reverse Proof Canadian Maple Leaf Gold and Silver Coins
New from the Royal Canadian Mint are one-ounce 2014 Reverse Proof Maple Leaf coins in special gold and silver editions.

Showcasing the same classic designs but in special reverse proof finishes are the 2014 Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coin and the 2014 Maple Leaf 1 oz Silver Coin.

Both are struck to very limited mintages as premium versions of their bullion counterparts. Maple Leaf coins have a long history. The bullion Gold Maple Leaf debuted in 1979 while the bullion Silver Maple Leaf was introduced less than a decade later in 1988.

Gold and Silver Maple Leaf Coin Designs and Specifications

The reverse of the two strikes bear the same basic image of a maple leaf. The design was created by Royal Canadian Mint engravers and is featured in a reverse proof finish with brilliant raised elements on frosted backgrounds. CANADA and 9999 is inscribed on reverses with additional inscriptions of FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR on the gold Maple Leaf and FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR on the silver release.

Also in a reverse proof finish, obverses of the two Maple Leaf coins feature Susanna Blunt’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Surrounding the effigy are the inscriptions of ELIZABETH II and 2014 along with the face value of 50 DOLLARS for the gold coin and 5 DOLLARS for the silver.

As shown in the chart above, mintage limits for the two editions are limited to no more than 2,000 for the gold coin and 20,000 for the silver coin.

$2,600 for the Canada Gold RP? 1 oz? Sorry, that’s a bit too much.

The Royal Canadian Mint also has minted 2014 reverse proof 1 oz. Silver Maple Leaf coins that feature as small privy mark on the reverse commemorating the 2014 lunar year of the horse. I bought an ungraded one for $31.00.
