Weekly sales data from the United States Mint usually offer debuting totals for products released during the prior week. There’s been some hit and miss on that recently.
Sales for the first four 2013 Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Medal Sets are still unknown, and everyone will have to wait longer to learn how well the new Limited Edition Silver Proof Sets are selling since their release one week ago.
Not skipped over were starting sales for the proof and uncirculated Ellen Wilson First Spouse Gold Coins, which were released on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013. These 99.99% pure gold coins opened with sales splits of 1,327 for the proof and 932 for the uncirculated.
Their combined total of 2,259 ranks weaker than the sales debut for the prior Helen Taft gold coins (2,449) yet stronger than the starts for first two in the series this year honoring Edith Roosevelt (1,282) and Ida McKinley (2,227). They did make it on the top 15 list of U.S. Mint weekly sellers.

This week’s U.S. Mint sales report included updates to 227 numismatic products. 46 of them outperformed their prior weekly sales compared to the 145 noted previously. 12 of them had unit sales of more than 1,000 versus 16 from the last report.
Updates to Sold Out Products, 2013-P Mount Rushmore Sales Decline
It seemed likely that the 2013-P Mount Rushmore National Memorial Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin would end with sales very close to 25,000. In some surprise, it would seem that may not be the case. The collector coin sold out last Thursday, Dec. 12, with last reported sales through to the Sunday before at 23,477. Gains from there were expected but the Mint’s latest data shows the Mount Rushmore total actually dropped by 146 to 23,331.
In another update and more in line with expectations, sales of the 2013-W $50 Proof American Gold Buffalo climbed 41 to 18,596. It sold out last week as well, on Monday Dec. 9. It will hold its series title as the least minted of the one-ounce coins.
