Year of the Horse Lucky Money $1 Note

Earlier today, Dec. 4, 2013, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) started accepting orders for its latest lucky money product featuring uniquely serialized $1 notes.

To celebrate the Year of the Horse and honor the Chinese Lunar New Year, the BEP has printed crisp uncirculated $1 notes with serial numbers beginning with "8888." The product is further limited to 88,888 units.

In the Chinese Lunar calendar, anyone born between the upcoming Chinese New Year of Jan. 31, 2014 and the end of that 12-month calendar on Feb. 18, 2015 is said to be born in the "Year of the Horse." Previous starting years include 1918, 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990 and 2002. Those born in the "Year of the Horse" are said to be clever, energetic, optimistic and animated.
