OK, it's a 2 year old thread bump but Victor, the Martha Washington design is NOT going to displace Jefferson or ANYONE ELSE on US coins.
It is time that the US acknowledges that there really is inflation; the dollar is dropping like a stone. The cent used to be copper the size of a half dollar but now it is worth less than a piece of copper plated zinc. Deal with reality, manufacture coins with something appropriate to their true value. Make them out of lead. Let the counterfeiters make as many coins as they want, it will save the taxpayers the cost of fabrication and materials. Does anyone really think that inflation will stop or that the money will stop being debased?

Why are they even talking about changing the compositions of the dime through dollar coin? All their costs considered are still well below face value. 50% for the dime and quarter and approximately 20% of face for the dollar. They seem good enough to leave alone for many years to come.

Since the zinc lobby would not be happy with the elimination of the cent/change of composition, why not make the nickel cupro-nickel plated zinc? They'll still lose, but the metal costs would be significantly reduced.

Yeah, lets worry about how to make a penny cheaper rather than getting rid of it altogether, that's the best way to go. Wake up Congress!

Ah yes, political correctness has hit the mint, again. They still haven't learned, a woman on our coins is a non starter. SBA, Sacagawea and now, Martha Washinton to displace Jefferson? Besides, their choices of metal looks like a bust. Leave things alone.
