Money collectors can order the 150th Anniversary Currency Set for $49.95 to receive a $2 note and $5 note with unique beginning and ending serial numbers. Those purchasing a set during the first month of release will also have a shot at winning an option to buy one of the first 150 sets produced. These include $2 and $5 notes that are hand autographed by Treasurer of the United States Rosie Rios.

Limited to 10,000 units, the BEP’s 150th Anniversary Currency Set includes a Series 2009 $5 note from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and a Series 2009 $2 note from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The $5 note has a starting serial number of "1862," symbolizing the origin of the BEP. The $2 note has a starting serial number of "2012" to commemorate the BEP’s anniversary. The last four digits of the serial numbers on both bills match.

These two notes are held within a clear, acid-free polymer sleeve that is encased within a folder that includes information about the currency set. Accompanying the set is a 52-page booklet entitled 150 Years of Pride, Craftsmanship, and Innovation.

"This informative booklet traces the Bureau of Engraving and Printing’s rich history and evolution, and includes a certificate authenticating the enclosed notes as genuine United States currency," the BEP website states.

Where to Order and Special Drawing

Orders for the 150th Anniversary Currency Set may be placed online through the Bureau of Engraving and Printing store found at www.moneyfactorystore.gov. More information about the drawing for the signed notes is also available through the set’s product page.

A limit of 100 sets is in place per household during the first week of sales. Bulk pricing is also available, with a price of $44.95 per unit for 10 or more sets.

Update: The Bureau of Engraving and Printing waived household ordering restrictions on December 19, 2012.

Making American History Coin and Currency Set

Another related anniversary product is the Making American History Coin and Currency Set. This is a joint offering from the BEP and United States Mint to celebrate their respective 150 and 220 years of service.

What, you get $7.00 for $49.95??? Packageing these days are high?? What is wrong with BEP and the Mint is included in this. To me the BEP sells alot of pricey packaging with their products.

Yep, and people gobble them up by the tens of thousands. That’s why the prices stay where they are..!!

I ordered one and gave in to the collector side of me. 🙂 Maybe not a highly desired set from a investment point of view but thought it would be fun to have. Maybe someone will be happy getting one of those special 150 sets in the BEP drawing next month. I’d like to see what the special signed sets may sell for in auction.

The BEP and the mint issue items for the collecting public. They have never said their products make great investments.

Would the autograph of “Rosie Rois” on the 150, make them a rare collectible or just give them a $10.00 bump?
