Based on the latest U.S. Mint sales figures, coin collectors preferred 2012-S Silver Eagle Two Coin Sets, 2012-W Proof Silver Eagles and other annual coin sets over the debuting 2012-W $50 Uncirculated American Gold Eagle Coin and 2012 Presidential $1 Four-Coin Sets.
Only hours remain until the 2012-S Silver Eagle Two Coin Sets go off sale at 5 PM ET today, July 5. Sales over the last seven days jumped 88,562 to 245,131, making it the Mint’s bestselling numismatic product. Those who ordered late may be disappointed in when they get theirs, as the U.S. Mint is saying that sets will be available for shipping on October 31, 2012.
Both San Francisco struck Silver Eagles make the about to expire coin sets attractive, and they also helped excite sales for standard West Point produced 2012-W Proof Silver Eagles as they were the 3rd bestseller of the week. The annual issue rose 19,105 to 475,556.
These two products combined with other coin sets accounted for 9 of Mint’s top 10 numismatic sellers.

Overall, it was another very strong week for the U.S. Mint. 76 numismatic products outperformed their prior weekly sales versus the 84 outperformers previous noted.
Sales Debut for 2012-W $50 Uncirculated American Gold Eagle Coin
Making its entrance on June 28, 2012 was the 2012-W $50 Uncirculated American Gold Eagle Coin. Buyers ordered 1,949 by July 2, 2012, marking a 77.5% improvement over the debut of last year’s uncirculated Gold Eagle. It ended with sales of 8,822 to register as a new low for the series.
Sales Debut for 2012 Presidential $1 Four Coin Sets
As a new product, there are no past year opening sales performances to compare against the new 2012 Presidential $1 Four Coin Sets. Launched on June 26, 2012 at a price of $9.95, the set from Philadelphia was more popular with sales of 2,033 versus the set from Denver at 1,574.
