US Mint Sales: Chickasaw 5 Oz Silver Coin and El Yunque Coin Set Debut

Chickasaw National Recreation Area Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins and El Yunque Quarter Three-Coin Sets joined the United States Mint sales tables this week. Although both products performed better than may have been expected, they failed to rally improved sales among other Mint products.

Debuting sales for the 2011-P Chickasaw National Recreation Area Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin came in at 8,658 between its launch on February 9 through to February 13. Chickasaw’s opening total breaks a trend of slower-starts in the series, surpassing the previous Vicksburg debut of 7,861 and nearly topping Olympic’s debut of 8,662. Sales of the America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins have been healthier of late, no doubt helped by higher silver prices in the precious metals market.

El Yunque Quarter Three-Coin Set Sales Debut

El Yunque Quarter Three-Coin Set sales began at 11,391, which is a contrasting improvement over several prior sets. Supporting sales is the new set’s attractive display card which features an image showcasing a colorful presentation of the El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico. Older display cards for three-coin sets are U.S. Mint branded and offer no site scenes. Also, the $5 price cut cannot be ignored. The El Yunque Quarter Three-Coin Set is available for $9.95 while the Mint continues to sell the others for a higher $14.95 price.

For reference, the immediate prior Chickasaw Quarter Three-Coin Set started at 10,483. Other previous three-coin set debut sales figures include Hot Springs at 10,684; Yellowstone at 11,115; Yosemite at 11,441; Grand Canyon at 12,418; Mount Hood at 11,282; Gettysburg at 12,500; Glacier at 10,620; Olympic at 10,891; and Vicksburg at 10,727.

The El Yunque Quarter Three-Coin Set was the Mint’s best weekly seller, as highlighted in the latest top-ten list.
