Gold Prices Edge Lower, Silver Gains, Bullion Coins Continue Advance
Gold prices dipped 0.6 percent Thursday, extending losses for a fourth day during which the yellow metal gave up $139.60, or 8.1 percent, of its value. The deepest hit came Wednesday when gold plummeted below $1,600 an ounce for the first time since September 29.

Final Day for U.S. Mint 2011 Commemorative Coins
Collectors have a single day left to place last-minute orders for this year's commemorative coins from the U.S. Mint. They will be removed from sale tomorrow, Friday, December 16, 2011 at 5:00 PM ET.
The coins slated to be pulled from the U.S. Mint store shelves include those honoring the establishment of the United States Army and the Medal of Honor. These gold, silver and clad collectibles are minted in both proof and uncirculated qualities.

Production of Circulating Presidential $1 Coins Halted
Production of circulating Presidential $1 Coins has been immediately suspended at the United States Mint. The suspension comes at the direction of Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner as part of a broad Campaign to Cut Government Waste established by President Barack Obama earlier this year.
Presidential $1 Coins will continue to be produced by the United States Mint for coin collectors much like the Kennedy half dollars have been in recent years. New Presidential dollars, however, will no longer be available through the Federal Reserve Bank System as they had been in the past [...]
Gold and Silver Prices Dive, Yet US Mint Bullion Coins Top...
Gold prices sank below $1,600 an ounce Wednesday and toward a five-month low when the U.S. dollar rallied as the euro fell to its lowest level since January. Gold was also pressured, opined analysts, from news that the Fed would avoid new stimulus programs.
"There is turbulence across the commodity market because of the strength in dollar," Jochen Hitzfeld, an analyst at UniCredit SpA in Munich, said in a telephone interview that was recounted on Bloomberg. "No further stimulus from the Fed is bearish for the market."

The price washout in precious metals intensified in the wake of the Fed's failure to please the markets with more stimulative action. The disappointment was palpable and when combined with the on-going angst surrounding the European debt debacle, the sentiment resulted in fresh two-month lows for gold and significant breaches of long-standing moving averages.
The domino theory in action here, and now. Curiously, the one domino that was supposed to be 'toast' by now -- the USD- is not only standing, but it is taking out the 80.50 (!) level on the index. Hmmm.

Lower prices for several United States Mint numismatic gold coins should arrive Wednesday. American Buffalos, American Eagles, commemoratives and First Spouse coins are poised for a price decrease based on the Mint's pricing policy to make adjustments on its numismatic gold products when the prevailing price of gold moves significantly.

Gold Dips 0.3%, Silver Prices Advance 0.8%
Gold edged 0.3 percent lower Tuesday, marking a second straight day of losses and a seven-week low. Other precious metals posted modest gains, with silver leading them with its 0.8 percent increase.
