Interest in America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Coins continues to dwindle based on United States Mint sales data. The latest issue in the series to show slower opening sales is the collectible 2011-P Olympic National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin.

Collectors purchased 8,662 between its release on Tuesday, November 29 and Monday December 5. Priced at $229.95, the United States Mint registered total sales of just over $1.99 million. While the amount is mostly in line with expectations, the Olympic uncirculated coin is now noted for having the slowest start in the five ounce series.

In comparing the other 2011-dated releases, opening sales figures for the previous 2011-P Glacier silver uncirculated coin hit 10,680 over seven days and, prior to that, the 2011-P Gettysburg silver uncirculated coin debuted at 9,549 through its first five days of availability. The sales totals for these two coins have climbed several thousand since, but they are far from selling out given their 35,000 mintages. On the other hand, it does appear possible that the last remaining 2010-dated five ounce uncirculated coin honoring Mount Hood will join the sellout ranks at some point as it has a lower mintage of 27,000.

For reference, the table below presents the latest United States Mint sales figures and authorized mintages for the investment-grade bullion and the collector uncirculated America the Beautiful Five Ounce Silver Coins. The Mint distributes the bullion coins through its network of authorized purchasers while it offers the collector coins directly to the public. The final three 2011-dated bullion coins are still available. The others have sold out. The collectible Mount Hood, Gettysburg, Glacier and Olympic coins may be purchased from the Mint’s website at http://www.usmint.gov. The final two 2011-dated coins are expected to launch in early 2012.
