Buying activity eased a bit for United States Mint numismatic products. The latest Mint sales figures show that 35 products outperformed their previous weekly gains as compared to the 53 noted just one report earlier.
Collectors did focus more of their attention on American Eagle gold and silver proof coins. All of the individually sold Eagles were among the Mint’s overachievers, albeit in a mostly modest way. American Silver Eagle proof coins actually led all numismatic product sales with a weekly spurt of 18,011 versus the prior 17,701.
With the one-ounce proof American Gold Eagle sold out since October, the next biggest one-half ounce size pulled the highest weekly sales in the series with an increase of 521 against the prior 175. Next came the one-tenth ounce at 331 over 312 and then the one-quarter ounce at 112 versus 70. Once again, they were not exactly scorching numbers but noticeable nevertheless — especially when considering the Eagles have been around since April and most collectors who wanted them had made purchases many months back.
Then again, proof coins are always popular with collectors. This week’s sales report has proof products appearing in three of the top five spots for United States Mint best sellers.

- 2011 Silver Proof Sets (+5,789 to 493,708)
