The United States Mint began selling bags and rolls of 2011 Glacier National Park Quarters at noon Eastern Time today, April 4, 2011. The reverse design on the quarters honor the national park located in the state of Montana.

Glacier National Park Quarter Bags and Rolls

The Glacier Quarter is the second of five 25-cent pieces for issue in 2011, and the seventh in the America the Beautiful Quarters® series which debuted in 2010. A total of fifty-six coins will be released through the program which is slated to run until at least 2021. The quaters in the series honor a different site of national interest from around the country such as national parks and national forests. One site was chosen from each state, the DC and the five US territories.

The Glacier quarter two-roll set is $39.95. One roll contains 40 quarters minted in Philadelphia, and the other is filled with 40 strikes from Denver — both facilities are responsible for producing America’s circulating coinage. The face value of the two rolls totals $20, marking a $19.95 premium for the set.

The US Mint is also selling 100-coin bags from either facility. The Glacier quarter bags are priced at $49.95 each, representing a premium of $24.95 above the face value of the 100 coins.

Glacier Quarter Circulation Release and Ceremony

Glacier National Park Quarters were also released into circulation today. Federal Reserve Banks will issue them when ordered by local banks throughout the U.S. and as needed to fulfill transactional needs. The formal release ceremony is scheduled to take place at 1:00 PM MT on April 13, 2011 at Columbia Falls High School. The school is located at 610 13th Street West in Columbia Falls, Montana.

Children in attendance will receive one free quarter while adults may exchange cash for rolls of the coins.

A coin forum open to the public will also be conducted by the US Mint on the evening prior to the Glacier quarter ceremony. That will be held at 5:00 PM MT on April 12, 2011 at Glacier National Park Community Building at park headquarters in West Glacier, Montana. Coin forums offer the opportunity to ask questions about the US Mint and American coinage, as well as learn about forthcoming US Mint products.

The question is, “who’s fooling who?” Has the US Mint really thought this program out to 2021? Since we all know that the face value of two rolls of quarters will always be a total of $20, and if we facture in the present state of deflation, and the purchase power of the dollar, these precursors alone stands to lessen the value of a quarter. And if we look into the future, taking into account all the other debilitating economic ventures that has and will further come about as a result of the miss management of our resources on every… Read more »
