The US mint/treasury should buy and sell bullion directly to the public. Why enrich just a few firms ? Since these firms were unable to deal with fair distribution of the 2010 coins, I’m very skeptical of them fufilling their duty to make a 2 way market in bullion coins when there is a significant down market.

It seems that the US Mint needs to reevaluate its distribution process to insure an equitable and efficient way to make bullion coins available to the American consumer. Personally, I prefer the ASE. It is the pinnacle of the coin minting art. I shudder to think that the Mint is considering changing the design, effectively fixing what is NOT BROKEN! I’ve seen various raw sets from almost all the APs who sold them…to the general public.. I’ve seen various sets that dealers are selling graded out as MS68s & 69’s. I’ve been collecting 45 years. I’ve seen dealers unloading upwards of around ten sets a day on E Bay, for the last 6 weeks.
There is no doubt in anyone’s mind what went on here……We got the junk, the defective dregs and the big boys got to cull out the choice gems and make their money. This whole issue has been a black eye for the coin business in general, as there is no doubt as to the dishonesty and deceit that permeated all of it. If anyone is curious as to why its taken so long for the remaining sellers to let go of their stock…well, they’re just not quite done “cherry-picking” yet. Of course, knowing something and being able to prove it are two completely different things…Truth is with these strikes, they’re not so great anyway.. Someone’s got some ‘splanin’ to do.
