The latest series of US Mint sales figures include the opening performances of several recently issued products and a mini-milestone for the 2011 Proof Sets.
The 2011 Proof Sets now have nearly three full weeks under their sales belt since they were released on January 11. Buyers ordered 253,144 during the first six days. The following week they climbed 25,879. The US Mint reports their latest weekly increase at 21,784, which lifted the 2011 Proof Sets over the 300K barrier to 300,807. They still have a long way to go in reaching the levels attained by last year’s set. Those are still available from the Mint, rising 3,043 to 1,057,577.
The 2011 Silver Proof Sets officially entered the sales tables for the first time. They went on sale January 25 and hit 209,367 during the first six days. Their sales start was slower than previous launches. Last year’s set, also still on sale, rose a modest 2,868 to hit 529,093.
Bags and rolls of Gettysburg quarters also debuted. They started slower than four of the previous five America the Beautiful Quarter issues, continuing a trend that began following the very first Hot Springs Quarter launch. (The Mount Hood opening sales figures are suspect given erroneous order cancellations that occured at the time.) The following table highlights past quarter opening performances:

US Mint bullion coins are rocking and rolling. The one-ounce Gold American Eagles jumped for a weekly increase of 55,000 compared to the previous 7,500 and the Silver American Eagles rallied with their own weekly advance of 1.748 million versus 136,000. As a side note, the Silver Eagles enjoyed their best ever month, hitting a 6.422 million monthly sales record in January 2011.
