Buyers stopping by the U.S. Mint's website this weekend to purchase the standalone one-ounce 2010 Gold Eagle Proof coin discovered all 25,000 had been ordered.

While the Mint is not yet officially calling the product a sell out, customers must place an order to join a standby list and then hope one of the 25,000 prior orders is canceled [...]

Precious metals rallied Friday for a second consecutive day as the U.S dollar dipped and gold prices surged toward $1,360 an ounce. The yellow metal capped its third straight monthly gain and has posted six weekly increases in seven weeks.

Speculation that the Fed will weaken the greenback with a second round of monetary easing supported gold. Prices shot up 2.5 percent this week after falling 3.4 percent last week [...]

Another overnight period of broad ranges and of pre-guessing the US Fed unfolded in the precious metals complex, most of it being subject once again to the fluctuations in the US dollar. Gold prices traded with the $1,335 - $1,355 channel, silver saw a near 50 cent range and platinum and palladium also swung within $20-$30 spans [...]

There will be five 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters featuring reverse designs representing selected sites located within Puerto Rico, New Mexico, Maine, Hawaii, and Alaska.

Already preparing for their release, the U.S. Mint has created and offered up for review 24 candidate designs that are emblematic of the four national parks and one national forest that will be honored in 2012, which is the third year of the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program [...]

Gold prices surged Thursday, rising for the first time in three days as the U.S. dollar weakened against other world currencies. The yellow metal jumped to over $1,340 an ounce as it rallied 1.5 percent.

Other precious metals followed. Platinum rose 0.8 percent while palladium added 1.7 percent. Silver outperformed them all, soaring 2.0 percent and briefly climbing above $24 an ounce [...]

The latest U.S. Mint sales figures show greater demand for bullion gold coins, clad sets and silver sets. On the other hand, bullion silver coins cooled slightly, as did interest in proof gold.

The 2009 DC & US Silver Quarters Proof Set has been a topic of interest in the last two Mint reports. 30-year high silver prices lifted the set's melt value to an all-time high of over $26, making the Mint's $29.95 price point a bargain [...]

More see-sawing was on display in overnight equities and commodities markets as pre-Fed calculations and sentiment extended the ebb and flow of the US dollar's movements on the index, which, in turn, shaped corresponding gyrations in other assets.

Clearly, the closer we get to the middle of next week, the more the markets and a plethora of economists are reassessing the scale and scope of the Fed's expected spending move [...]

Markets shifted mostly lower Wednesday as speculation was abound that monetary easing measures by the Fed to boost the economy might be less than first expected or gradual in nature. The news propped the U.S. dollar, which further pressured gold and other commodities. The yellow metal fell 1.2 percent and to its lowest level in three weeks. Silver and platinum retreated further, falling 1.8 and 1.5 percent, respectively [...]

Coin collectors and admirers of the 16th President of the United States will have one more chance to attend a release ceremony for a coin dedicated to the man as the U.S. Mint plans to hold a public launch for the Abraham Lincoln Presidential $1 Coin on November 19, 2010.

The public invited ceremony will be held at President Lincoln's Cottage on the grounds of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C. beginning at 10 AM (Eastern) [...]
