While the Mint is not yet officially calling the product a sell out, customers must place an order to join a standby list and then hope one of the 25,000 prior orders is canceled [...]

Precious metals rallied Friday for a second consecutive day as the U.S dollar dipped and gold prices surged toward $1,360 an ounce. The yellow metal capped its third straight monthly gain and has posted six weekly increases in seven weeks.

Gold prices surged Thursday, rising for the first time in three days as the U.S. dollar weakened against other world currencies. The yellow metal jumped to over $1,340 an ounce as it rallied 1.5 percent.

Other precious metals followed. Platinum rose 0.8 percent while palladium added 1.7 percent. Silver outperformed them all, soaring 2.0 percent and briefly climbing above $24 an ounce [...]

Additional gains recorded overnight brought the US dollar very near the 78 mark on the trade-weighted index and contributed to a fresh dip in gold prices down to the $1,326.00 level. Crude oil felt the rising dollar-induced selling heat as well, losing nearly $1 to fall to $81.72 per barrel.
