Step 1 – Fire Ed Moy !! Now !!!

Look at the profit margins on collectible UNC Mint Sets, Proof, & Silver Proof, not to mention the upcharge for the gold products produced at the Mint, and figure where they’re making up the difference for the production costs of circulating coins for public use !!!! The Mint has been sticking it to the collectors any way they see fit for quite a while now. It’s been no secret about the cost overruns on Cent and Nickle coin production for years.
Then they strike BILLIONS of “Golden Dollars” (i.e. Presidential & Native American) that rot in the vaults at the Fed. Nobody wants them for commerce…my wife came home this week asking what the heck they were when she rec’d two in change. You give them to a toll collector and you get a dirty look. The post office removed the stamp machines which dispensed them as change in my town. OH, and they look terrible, it’s not the engraver’s fault, the metal mixture has no luster and the eyes all look spooky…Chucky Cheese tokens look better.
So, we have EZ Pass for Tolls, junk the bulk of circulating coinage, let us collectors hoard what’s minted, and issue chip-based “Blink Cards” to the public which they have to keep a minimum balance on by tying it to your bank account or debit card..or Cell Phone account for the change portion of commerce transactions. Don’t forget, this is the same country that minted 3 cent nickles to be used for 3 cent postage stamps. Maybe they should increase postage to $1.00 and we can glue those darned golden dollars on our letters. Watch your postman’s leg’s buckle carrying that bag door to door !!!
If you don’t like my tirade – go back to Step # 1..I’ll be happy with that as a start !!!!! Keep Smilin’ America !!

It's like everything else that goes on.They do what they want because they CAN.The mint will produce the coins they're pushing and not what is a proven sale.Don't know why except they have that power.I collect a bit and know throughout history certain years weren't issued but doubt seriously they weren't because of the reasons they use today. Why a 5 oz. coin and not 5 1 oz. coins?America Beautiful coins are a great idea simular to state quarters.Very collectable by all.Not everyone can shell out say $100 for a 5oz. silver coin/medallion what ever it is called.I'll purchase the the America Beautiful series but not the medallions. If I want 5 oz.,I'll continue buyiny bars.Just seems to me we're being told what to buy and then who's to buy it.

We don't need a law authorizing proof 2010 silver Eagles. If they don't get produced, they don't get produced. The current economic climate will not be the prevailing one and soon enough, silver demand will drop and all of this will return to normal. The absence of 2009 proofs and the potential absence of 2010 ones as well gives the silver Eagle set "character". It also provides a natural dividing point for future collectors. Older coin sets have missing dates and mintmarks showing the economic activity in the area. If anything, it keeps the set from being boring.

Odd how the mint hasn't had enough gold/silver for the collector's edition of the American Eagles, yet it can approve a program that will produce 5 oz. coins (I guess we'll call them coins) that replicate the America Beautiful quarters. It's curious, why don't we want to produce any coins with the "W" mint mark?

Leave the coins as they are, Obama is screwing up everything he can. I would only by one 5 oz. coin. It would be for the state I live in. I like the 4, 8 & 16 once silver eagles. Just my thoughts.
